Ti lascia respirare un poco al 15 km perchè spiana al 3% per 2 km e soprattutto ti fermi un attimo a riempire la borraccia alla casina bianca. Poi riprende a salire forte, dal 20km al 26 km comincia il bello, 6/7 km al 10% fisso. Devi stringere i denti, cominci a vedere i tornanti sopra di te. Al 27km esci dall’ultima galleria e finalmente spiana al 3/4% e ti sembra di andare in discesa adesso. Meno conosciuta delle altre mitiche salite italiane ma da fare assolutamente. I have to cheat here a little as I descended from the Timmelsjoch down for about 10km and then back up (700m climbing) but I recon they are the most interesting.
Interesting is an understatement, this is just fabulous. The views, the way the road is cut into the hillside is just epic. It had a raw and daring feel to it.
The descent is tricky with the road being a bit raggedy plus the traffic.
The way up is awesome once you find your rhythm. Just ride up, take the view in and relax into the climb bend by bend.
This road will stay with you forever and all the traffic and stuff just blends into the background.

De klim kan je onderverdelen in drie blokken: een eerste stuk tot een kilometer of 14 waar het er soms lekker pittig aan toe gaat, maar op het eigen tempo goed te doen is. Bij kilometer 15 heb je bij een wit huis een waterpunt waar je je hoofd onder ijskoud bergwater kunt houden. Op een warme dag zou ik dit zeker doen. Dit middenstuk van een paar kilometer golft een beetje en geeft je wat tijd om te herstellen voor het laatste stuk. Dat laatste stuk begint bij kilometer 20 en gaat door tot de rechte tunnel 2 kilometer voor het eind. Die 8 kilometer zijn pittiger dan je op het hoogteprofiel zou vermoeden. Coming from Merano, the main issue with this climb is the duration. It is never really steep but it never ends. I took a coffee halfway, just after Moos. The weather was great and to be honest, I would not consider to tackle this climb in any other conditions. But on a good weather day, it is a great climb. I continued to Solden and climbed my way back afterwards. The climb from Solden is shorter and the last part is a gem. Great day!

Je kan de route indelen in 3 delen:

Niet te onderschatten lange klim maar fantastische fietservaring in prachtig decor.
Deze klimzijde hoort naar mijn mening zeker bij de Italiaanse toppers als Gavia en Stelvio.
Hij is niet voor niks de slotklim van de gekende jaarlijkse Otztaler radmarathon.
