Hard but beautiful climb. The final climb during the ORM, which you will thus face after about 180km.

Personally, it seemed to me to be harder than the Stelvio, but maybe that was due to the much longer tour that day. Unmissable climb!

I went up on 16 August 2024 starting from St Leonhard in Passiria at 10:00. I set off calmly because I had read a few reviews and was both enthusiastic and a little worried. I must say that I did very well because the climb is really demanding. It is 29 km long and always climbs. It starts immediately at 7/8 % of an incline. It lets you breathe a little at 15 km because it flattens out at 3% for 2 km and above all you stop for a moment to fill your water bottle at the little white house. Then it starts climbing strongly again, from 20 to 26 km the fun begins, 6/7 km to 10% fixed. You have to grit your teeth, you start to see the hairpin bends above you. At 27km you come out of the last tunnel and finally level off at 3/4% and you feel like you are going downhill now. Less well known than the other legendary Italian climbs but absolutely must be done. For the record, 3 flasks and 4 bars. It took me 2 hours and 42 minutes . At the summit there is a chalet where you can eat something and change. You can turn back or go down to Austria... I continued on.

Ho impiegato 2 ore e 42 minuti . In vetta trovi uno chalet dove puoi mangiare qualcosa e cambiarti. Puoi tornare indietro oppure scendere in Austria.. io ho proseguito.

I have to cheat here a little as I descended from the Timmelsjoch down for about 10km and then back up (700m climbing) but I recon they are the most interesting.
Interesting is an understatement, this is just fabulous. The views, the way the road is cut into the hillside is just epic. It had a raw and daring feel to it.
The descent is tricky with the road being a bit raggedy plus the traffic.
The way up is awesome once you find your rhythm. Just ride up, take the view in and relax into the climb bend by bend.
This road will stay with you forever and all the traffic and stuff just blends into the background.

Nice climb. Steep sections, but occasionally many flatter sections allowing you to relax your legs a bit.
Quite busy with motorbikes and cars's, even on a Tuesday in late June that we were there.

Fraaie klim.

Climbed this climb along both sides. Twice via the ÖRM, which makes it a bit trickier because you already have 170 km in your legs. The last 8 km are indeed the trickiest, fortunately the hairpin bends are smoothed out. After the tunnel it is another 2 km "false flat" to the top. Nice climb? Yes! Most beautiful climb? Surely not: the real gems are north of Turin and Cuneo. Colle del Nivolet is the top spot, followed by the Fauniera.

Not knowing that this climb was deadly on the last km's. Considered dropping out a few times, but cycled on in character.
No regrets. At the top, unfortunately, there is not that much to see. Even a bit boring, but a climb you must have done!

It has already been said by others, but what a pearl of a climb is Passo Rombo! Everywhere, you are treated to beautiful views. Do not forget the descent on the other side. It is amazing how different the environment looks on that side.
The climb can be divided into three blocks: a first part up to about 14 kilometres where it is sometimes pretty tough, but doable at your own pace. At kilometre 15, at a white house, there is a water point where you can hold your head under ice-cold mountain water. I would definitely do this on a hot day. This middle section of a few kilometres undulates a little and gives you some time to recover for the final stretch. That final stretch starts at kilometre 20 and continues until the straight tunnel 2 kilometres before the end. Those 8 kilometres are tougher than you would expect from the altitude profile. The hairpin bends are fairly flat, but the rest of the kilometres is pretty steep. So steam off!
From the tunnel, it is another two kilometres to the actual summit. It is surprisingly quiet at the top. The whole climb is also quite calm, which makes Rombo that extra bit of fun.
During the climb, you pass 18 tunnels and small tunnels. Take your lights with you!
Enjoy this climb!

Coming from Merano, the main issue with this climb is the duration. It is never really steep but it never ends. I took a coffee halfway, just after Moos. The weather was great and to be honest, I would not consider to tackle this climb in any other conditions. But on a good weather day, it is a great climb. I continued to Solden and climbed my way back afterwards. The climb from Solden is shorter and the last part is a gem. Great day!

I've fought many cols and been able to tick them off my to-do list. And this has to be one of the most beautiful, maybe even the most beautiful.
This col contains everything you may expect from a beautiful col. Frightening challenge, beautiful vistas. Impressive mountain tops. Numerous waterfalls. Small bridges. Up to 18 tunnels (so for safety take your rear lights with you). Hairpin bends.
I like to climb, and I like high mountains, but I am afraid of heights, so the descent was not easy for me. No, I did not gain any speed. It's funny how the Italian and the Austrian road builders approach things completely different. The Timmelsjoch and the Passo del Rombo are the same mountain, but they feel and look totally different.
I think the Passo del Rombo is a must for every col lover. You can always try to ride the Ötztaher Radmarathon, because this is the final climb of it!

I cycled up the beautiful Italian side of the literal cross-border Timmelsjoch/Passo del Rombo from Moos in Passeier(1007m/last 22km ).
You can divide the route into 3 parts:
Starting with a first passage of 7km of climbing via hairpin bends that starts at the outside of Moos. Then follows a welcome false flat plateau (about 6 km) along the eastern flank of the Passeier valley, with the necessary tunnels (16 pieces of various lengths on the whole climb), where once above the tree line you have a not so encouraging view on the other side with hairpin bends waiting for you like gutters against the mountainside.
After crossing the river the long and at times very steep (+10) final part follows with those hairpins to the redeeming entrance of the longest dark wet tunnel (660m) after which the last few kilometers flatten out to the sober pass height with mountain restaurant and cubist lookout but with a fantastic view.

Not to underestimate long climb but fantastic cycling experience in beautiful scenery.
In my opinion, this side of the climb certainly belongs to the Italian toppers like Gavia and Stelvio.
It is not for nothing that it is the final climb of the famous annual Otztaler Radmarathon.
