Climbed this one in 2018. Incredibly tough climb! 12 km at an average of 11%. With its own "La Redoute" few kilometers before the top, with sections of more than 20%. From the start, it's already steep uphill and that won't change for the first 8 km. The road surface is narrow, but reasonable. The advantage is that you are alone here. The Mortirolo made by Tovo is undoubtedly the most difficult slope, definitely not for the faint-hearted! I strongly recommend an agile ratio. Personally, I was only able to do the steepest section with a mountain bike after two attempts with a road bike. the surface has improved considerably with a practically new asphalt section. There is still the steepest asphalt section in Lot but it is still of good quality (it is the leaves that make the tyres slip). the first part almost never goes below 10% remaining often around 13-14% with points at 18%, the traffic is nil (today all alone given the cold weather). When you get to the 7th bend of the Mortirolo, you can finally catch your breath. Beautiful climb, but really brutal!

Nice climb that goes well through the forest, which is nice with 32 degrees outside. Today the col was closed to cars and motorbikes and there were very few cyclists.
Although very tough, I did find it a nice climb. I don't know what exactly made it so, but in any case not the asphalt. That was often of poor quality. The grids over the drainage are good to do, but you have to be careful how you steer over them.
At each bend, it is indicated how high you are, how far it is and how steep the stretch is until the next hairpin. And there are many hairpins.
Then, with a bit more climbing and mostly flat/downhill, you can get to the Mortirolo in 9.8 km.
In short, worth it as far as I'm concerned!

A must-do, but make sure you're sharp. It's steep, very steep and over long sections.

You should not give much review to this. This is heavy heavy heavy. So heavy that the pros don't take this side in the race. So hard that you burn sugars like crazy. This is the Mortirolo side that didn't steal its name. Narrow, but relatively traffic-free. But think before you leap and make sure you can pedal a small gear!

There is hardly anyone else on the road and I have not seen a car during the entire climb. The gradients per km sometimes obscure the profile. In a stretch of 12%, it often goes up by 16% before leveling off to 6%. This is a climb where 6% feels like "flat" where you can rest your legs for a while.
The hardest part comes after the descent. You have been pedalling your lungs out for an hour and then the percentages of the gradient reach and even exceed 20%. In addition, the road surface is much worse. At the time, they were working on the road surface. Maybe it has been repaved in the meantime?
That part was so steep that when I pulled on my handlebars to put some pressure on it (to get ahead at all), I lifted my front wheel from the ground and crashed. Climbing back on your bike and leaving is not possible with such a steep incline, so I had to walk until it leveled off below 15% to get back on my bike.
There is nothing going on at the top. But you are so exhausted that it is the last thing you have to worry about.
This is by far the hardest climb I have ever done. It is not called the Mortirolo for nothing.

Heb deze beklommen in 2018.
Ontieglijk zware klim!

Not as famous as mazzo, but it is harder, the locals told me it was crazy hard.it starts off much steeper than mazzo, then about half way there is a flat section ,which you pay for! There are some beautiful views and then it ramps up.problem is road is serrated concrete with steel drainage channels that can fit a foot.its difficult to keep momentum as it is really steep,my garmin said 26%.then you rejoin the road near top and it seems easy! I saw no-one on this road! It starts next to the tovo cemetery! Worth doing, as i did mazzo 5 times and i wanted to try another for 6. It is beautiful but hard. The hardness near the main t junction channeled zoncolan. The mazzo climb is hard because it is persistently steep, tovo climb is hard, then easy then crazy steep, choose your poison!
