A tough and steady climb, to be respected and tackled with the right gear ratios. The route offers a beautiful succession of scenery: you start among the houses of the village of Mazzo, then plunge into the forest for much of the climb, until you come out in the final kilometres among alpine pastures. To make it all the more epic, there is the history of cycling that one breathes on these legendary ramps. The road is steep and narrow: it is best to choose the variant from Monno for the descent, which also allows loop rides with Aprica or, for the more trained, with Gavia.
Worth a diversion, if you like steep climbing! My first time so steep. With 34/34 gear still very tough. 1.5h to get to the top. Started at 19:30h, really recommended if you like it cooler. I actually went for the Mortirolo but accidentally ended up on this variant because I followed the 'via di Mortirolo' in the village. Few views up, descended to Grosio with much more nice views.
Mega tough and only for really well-trained climbers, with the right gear on the bike. At the top, you will be rewarded with great views and be proud of yourself!
Easy climb. Do make sure you bring a second pair of legs for the way back if you're staying in Bormio.
Makkelijk klimmetje.
Fantastic challenge for someone 52 years young and 100kg. Tough challenging climb in fantastic surroundings. Quiet and fine road with a constant ascent. Keep pedalling slowly and enjoy the scenery. Highly recommended for any cycling enthusiast who likes a challenge.
The toughest climb ever! It is one of several climbs from Valtellina (three alternatives for the first kilometres). Hard, beautiful, long. Much more demanding than the ascent from Valle Camonica. Absolutely must be done! It is also worth a long trip: many well-equipped facilities to accommodate cyclists from all over the world.
