Impressive. The name Mortirolo alone creates a certain tension as we cycle from Grosio into the dense forest on a very narrow path. In no time, the percentages go well over 10%. Going back to 34x34 and standing on the pedals regularly is the solution. After 4/5 km come the Alpine meadows and you can see the valley and Grosio below. Only then do you realise how fast you are climbing. Forest and meadow continue to alternate already landscape. What makes the Mortirolo tough is that there are no stretches to rest. It remains continuously tough. The last kilometre is a place to have a drink and you can see the summit in the distance. At the top, unfortunately, it is not spectacular. No special views. A hilltop with meadows. But a lot of satisfaction 😀.

Indrukwekkend.

Beautiful but challenging climb. This route proved to be quiet and very enjoyable compared with the Gavia that we did later in the day. It was much quieter than the other (harder) route on the day.

Perhaps one of the 'easiest' climbs to reach the Mortirolo but certainly more scenic and varied than the ascent from Mazzo. Generally, this climb is not very busy.
From km 9 it rejoins the climb coming from Mazzo.
I do not remember any fountains along the route and there is no possibility of refreshment at the finish.
