The altitude metres fluctuate. Steep sections alternate with false flat. Towards the Drielandenpunt there is a bit of gravel in front of your wheels, but on a road bike this is fine.
Mooie klim vanuit de Akense wijk Vaalserquartier naar het Drielandenpunt. In het begin rij je nog even in de bebouwing maar al vlot ga je het buitengebied in. De hoogtemeters fluctueren. Steile stukjes wisselen zich af met vals plat. Richting het Drielandenpunt krijg je nog een stukje gravel voor de wielen maar dat is met een racefiets prima te doen.

Lovely climb. Not too heavy and because of the great variety it feels even lighter. In the beginning between the houses there is little slope so you're soon in the green. There you dive right into a beautiful hollow road with a steep slope. The road climbs more and more and between the trees you have beautiful views to the hills and valleys around you. The gravel section (about 400 meters) is somewhat coarse but there are no holes in it, so it is indeed good to drive. It is also over with the slope so it drives fairly light.

Heerlijke klim. Niet al te zwaar en door de grote gevarieerdheid voelt het nog lichter. In het begin tussen de huizen is er nog weinig helling dus je bent zo in het groen. Daar duik je meteen een mooie holle weg in met een flinke helling. De weg stijgt steeds verder en tussen de bomen door heb je mooie doorkijkjes naar de heuvels en dalen om je heen. Het gravelgedeelte (zo'n 400 meter) is wat grof maar er zitten verder geen gaten in, dus is inderdaad goed te rijden. Het is dan ook wel over met de helling dus het rijdt redelijk licht.
Amper fietsers gezien, wel wat wandelaars en hardlopers.

Inderdaad de mooiste van de drie hier genoemd. Er is alleen nog een vierde manier om vanuit Vaals op hetzelfde punt boven uit te komen met een veel langer stuk grind. Het begin ligt ook in de Vaalserstrasse maar dan iets verderop vanuit de Steppenbergweg richting het spoor rijden door het tunneltje en dan rechtsaf de Friedrichweg op, vervolgens tweede straat rechts (Am Hasselholz) in en direct weer rechts de Hasselholzerweg op. Deze weg uitrijden en dan weer rechts de Preusweg op. Nu fiets je het bos in en draai je de eerste weg rechts haaks de Moresneterweg op. Daarna gewoon de weg blijven volgen, een stukje de grens over België in en dan weer naar rechts over het grind. In één klim Nederland, Duitsland en België aangedaan. CHAPEAU! (Het liefst wel op 28 mm bandjes)
Personally I think this is the most beautiful variant of the tripoint. Usually I take a slightly more eastern approach, next to the railway. Unfortunately the upper part is gravel. It is also easy to do on a road bike, but at busy times there can be so many hikers that you can't take the ideal line on the gravel. Definitely an alternative to try it out.
Persoonlijk vind ik dit de mooiste variant van het drielandenpunt. Meestal pak ik een iets oostelijker aanloop, naast het spoor. Helaas is het bovenste stuk gravel. Het is ook op de wegfiets goed te berijden, op drukke momenten kunnen er soms wel zo veel wandelaars zijn dat je niet de ideale lijn over het gravel kunt pakken. Zeker wel een alternatief om een keertje meet te pakken.
