Weinig verkeer, twee haarspeldbochten, mooie uitzichten en goed asfalt. Kortom, een heerlijke klim die na het spoorwegtunneltje eigenlijk pas echt begint en mooi gelijkmatig blijft. Wat mij betreft de mooiste in de regio.
Nice climb. Quiet, nice road surface, fine bends, actually more fun than the other side. In any case, it is amazing how much quieter it is on the Belgian side.
Lekkere klim. Rustig, mooi wegdek, fijne bochten, eigenlijk leuker dan de andere kant. Sowieso blijft het verbazingwekkend hoeveel rustiger het aan de Belgische kant is.
The climb that gives the ascent to the highest point of the Netherlands the cachet it deserves.... but in Belgium. First from Gemmenich to the little tunnel and then steeper. The hairpins in the last kilometer and the views make the climb a nice experience. Much nicer than the Dutch side from Vaals.
De klim die de opgang naar het hoogste punt van Nederland de cachet geeft die het verdient....maar dan in België. Eerst vanuit Gemmenich makkelijk naar het tunneltje en dan steeds wat steiler. Door de haarspelden in de laatste kilometer en de vergezichten is het klimmen een mooie ervaring. Veel mooier dan de Nederlandse kant vanuit Vaals.
I concur with previous reviews. This is a beautiful climb with nice tarmac, nice bends and beautiful views. I'm actually surprised that the climb is only a mile or two long. It felt a bit longer. Maybe it was because of the climb of the Pass of Wolfhaag I did before with only a short quick descent to recover.
Ik sluit me aan bij eerdere reviews. Dit is een schitterende klim met mooi asfalt, lekkere bochten en fraaie uitzichten. Het verbaasd me eigenlijk dat de klim slechts een kilometer of twee lang is. Het voelde wat langer. Wellicht kwam het door de beklimming van de Pas van Wolfhaag die ik ervoor deed met slechts een korte snelle afdaling om te herstellen.
Revision of previous review, now with photos. After having done both variants of this climb, it is clear: this is the best variant of the Vaalserberg. The road is much calmer, nicer and more gradual than the main variant. It's not a tough climb, but as a tourist attraction it is the best that Limburg has to offer.
Revisie va n vorige review, nu met foto's. Na beide varianten van deze klim gedaan te hebben, is het duidelijk: dit is de beste variant van de Vaalserberg. De weg is veel rustiger, mooier en geleidelijk dan de hoofdvariant. Zwaar is de klim niet, maar als toeristische fietsattractie het beste dat Limburg te bieden heeft.
A review needs a minimum number of characters otherwise I would suffice with a simple "Must do".
So let's do something more extensive: A beautiful climb (the most beautiful climb in southern Limburg? ;-)) with mostly perfect asphalt (only the approach is a little less) and hairpins with views that you would not expect. An excellent runner too. The only drawback is the circus you find at the top ... After the wonderful rest of the climb.

Dus dan maar wat uitgebreider: Een prachtige klim (de mooiste klim in Zuid-Limburg? ;-)) met grotendeels perfect asfalt (alleen de aanloop is iets minder) en hairpins met uitzichten die je hier niet zou verwachten. Een prima loper ook. Het enige nadeeltje is het circus wat je boven aantreft... na de heerlijke rust van de klim.

Much nicer side of the drielandenpunt. The tarmac is perfect and it is a lot quieter than the Vaalserberg. Because of the hairpin bends you swing nice and steady upwards. But, pay attention to the hikers and children, who shoot from left to right to make the best photos of the drielandenpunt
Veel leukere kant van het drielandenpunt. Het asfalt ligt er perfect bij en het is een stuk rustiger dan de Vaalserberg. Door de haarspeldbochten slinger je lekker constant naar boven. Maar, let boven goed op de wandelaars en kinderen, die van links naar rechts schieten om de beste foto's te maken van het drielandenpunt

For me, the most fun "side" to the tri-border point. In 2013 I came up here by bike for the first time after not having been there for 41 years. Had no idea where I was but it felt familiar, once up there I immediately recognized the tower and the markings of the 3-country point. As if nothing had changed all that time. The road has a fresh layer of asphalt and with the hairpin bends it feels like a real climb. Be aware that the farmer's land just before the tunnel can make the road quite slippery with mud during the season!
Voor mij de leukste "kant" naar het drielandenpunt. In 2013 kwam ik hier voor het eerst met de fiets boven nadat ik er 41 jaar niet was geweest. Had geen idee waar ik was maar het voelde bekend, eenmaal boven herkende ik meteen de toren en de markering van het 3landenpunt. Alsof er al die tijd niets veranderd was. De weg is voorzien van een verse laag asfalt en met de haarspeldbochten voelt het als een echte klim. Let wel bij het afdalen dat de boer met land net voor de tunnel in het seizoen het wegdek aardig glad kan maken met modder!
5 stars, because you really should not miss this one! Especially the last part is very nice and very beautiful! Once you get to the top you come out in the 3 countries fairground. Lots of people there.
5 sterren, want deze mag je echt niet missen! Vooral het laatste deel is heel leuk en heel mooi! Eenmaal boven kom je wel in het 3 landenpunt kermis uit. Veel volk daar.
Very nice climb with nice tarmac, the climb actually starts lower just after Plombieres at 150meter altitude. Usually it is climbed from the descent from Wolfshaag. Pay attention to the sharp turn to the left in the descent (after the railway bridge). Especially a nice view in the first hairpin bend. Because it is a bit flatter the ideal point to accelerate.
Erg leuke klim met mooi asfalt, de klim begint eigenlijk al lager net na Plombieres op 150meter hoogte. Meestal wordt hij beklommen vanuit de afdaling vanuit Wolfshaag. Let op! uitermate scherpe afslag naar links in de afdaling (na de spoorbrug). Vooral een mooi uitzicht in de eerste haarspeldbocht. Omdat het hier wat vlakker loopt het ideale punt om nog te versnellen.
The variant to cycle to the three countries point. After it was repaved this road is really beautiful. First you ride through a small hamlet, then the climb starts at the bottom of a brick viaduct. Super views to Belgium, and you can find a good rhythm here to gradually climb up.
Dé variant om naar het drielandenpunt te fietsen. Nadat het opnieuw was geasfalteerd is deze weg echt prachtig. Je rijdt allereerst door een klein gehucht, waarna de klim begint onderaan een bakstenen viaduct. Super uitzicht naar België, en je kunt hier een goed ritme vinden om geleidelijk naar boven te klimmen.
By far the most beautiful climb of the three countries point. Once up you have a nice viewpoint over the Voer-region. This side is also pretty quiet compared to the Dutch side.
Verreweg de mooiste beklimming van het drielandenpunt. Eenmaal boven heb je een mooi uitzichtpunt over de voerstreek. Deze kant is ook best rustig to.v. de Nederlandse kant.
For me the most beautiful climb of the Drielandenpunt. Unfortunately a lot of trees have been cut down, therefore a clear view. Nice bends, good tarmac, nice percentages which invite to stomp through, a wonderful climb.
Voor mij de mooiste beklimming van het Drielandenpunt. Helaas wat veel bomen weggekapt, daardoor wel vrij zicht. Mooie bochten, goed asfalt, lekkere percentages die uitnodigen tot doorstampen, een heerlijke klim.

As mentioned above, you really feel deep in the Ardennes or a French mountain range. Lovely runner where you can maintain a good pace.
Personally I like the approach of this climb from Plombières, then you start from the lowest point and you climb towards Volkerich and then on to Gemmenich. This way you get a climb of about five kilometers with some difference in altitude.
Geweldige klim naar het Drielandenpunt.
Zoals hierboven gezegd waan je je echt diep in de Ardennen of in een Frans gebergte. Heerlijke loper waar je een goed tempo kan volhouden.
De leukste approach van deze klim vind ik persoonlijk vanuit Plombières, dan vertrek je vanuit het laagste punt en klim je richting Volkerich en daarna door naar Gemmenich. Zo krijg je een klim voor de wielen van een vijftal kilometer met wel wat hoogteverschil.

Great climb, it's like being in the Alps or deep in the Ardennes. Fantastic road surface and two great hairpin bends. If you want to leave your cycling friends on the spot: start on time, because at the last hairpin you can't make much difference!
Geweldige klim, het lijkt alsof je in de Alpen bent of diep in de Ardennen. Fantastische wegdek en twee geweldige haarspeldbochten. Voor als je je fietsvrienden ter plekke wilt laten: begin op tijd, want bij de laatste haarspeldbocht kan je weinig verschil meer maken!

Today I descended again after having climbed via Germany (Vaalserberg-east) to the 3-country point. I don't understand why this climb and the climbs around Orsbach have ever been included in Limburg's finest. The road surface was again very bad and the last part was even unpaved. It is that there is no traffic because you have to sling to avoid all the pits and holes. Too bad because it is a nice climb of 3 km.
Vandaag weer eens afgedaald nadat ik via Duitsland (vaalserberg-oost) naar het 3-landenpunt ben geklommen. Ik snap niet dat deze beklimming en ook de beklimmingen rond Orsbach ooit in Limburgs mooiste zijn opgenomen. Het wegdek was ook hier weer verschrikkelijk slecht en het laatste stuk zelfs onverhard. Het is dat er geen verkeer rijdt want je moet slingerend naar boven om alle putten en kuilen te ontwijken. Heel jammer want het is wel een mooie klim van 3 km.
