Beautiful climb from the Aachen district of Kronenberg to the Drielandenpunt. In the beginning, you ride in built-up areas for a while, but soon you enter the countryside. The first 1½ kilometres are just false flat. The next 1½ kilometres the gradient is between 4 and 7%. The last bit to the top is then false flat again. Towards the Drielandenpunt you get a bit of gravel in front of your wheels, but this is fine on a road bike.... read more

A climb with a very relaxed approach, although the beginning is a bit steeper than the percentages indicate. Before and after the tunnel nice views and you cross an anti-tank barrier (Höckerlinie / dragon's teeth). Just before reaching the hamlet the road rises steeply in what feels like the steepest part of the route. After that the route coincides with the other climbs of the Vaalserberg from Germany, so there's some nice curves and a bit of (well rideable) gravel.

A nice route, but in terms of views less than the route via the Schmiedgasse.
