Long but not too painful, and wonderful views. We did it the first and second day open at the end of May so lots of snow near the top. Brilliant descent to La Rosière with easy gradient, decent road surface, and gentle bends. Also enjoyed being passed at high speed by Simon Geschke and Guillaume Martin of Cofidis out training. Here's a short film of the experience... https://youtu.be/j7QwBWzA6m8

I didn't cycle up it myself, but the two climbs merge and then it's not to be missed.
The road is coloured again...

The attached profile does not detail the most classic ascent which is done entirely on the D1090 on a main road linking France to Italy, 4km longer and therefore easier.
The variant proposed on ClimbFinder is the Tour de France type, you have to leave the main road just after the Noyeray in direction of Montvalezan then Hauteville.
This variant is quieter and also much prettier in terms of landscapes than the D1090, however the percentages are severe with 6KMs between 8 and over 9 %
We join the main road at about 5km from the Rosière and we can put the gear back on immediately, we also find the heavy traffic until the top, that is to say for another 12 km.
After the Rosière, if you haven't kept your pedal to the metal, it's tiring because you can see the Statute of the Petit St Bernard, but the road is still long, the cold is sometimes felt and the wind can blow quite hard.
During the descent, you should avoid playing kamikaze because some places are subject to the rigours of winter and the asphalt is cracked.
Good road and prudence
Ps: Photos attached of my last ascent on June 1, 2019 between walls of snow, shortly after the opening of the pass.

Very nice climb! Is a must for me in this area. From Bourg st Maurice climbed and descended to La Thuile for Italian coffee. From France a long climb but a 'runner'. It never gets very steep and you often have nice views. Until La Rosiere it is a bit more crowded, but after this ski resort it becomes quieter. Lots of cars and motorcycles wanting to take a look at the border. From La Thuile, the climb is a lot shorter and steeper, but also good to do here.

Hele mooi klim!

Is this a nice climb too, compared to what else is around?

Climbed on 12 July from Italy. Long, about 23 km, but not very steep. Down below much traffic, but further to the top quite quiet. Road surface on the Italian side much better than the French part.

Beautiful col (cycled 28-8), great to start in and around Bourg Saint Maurice! Col changes according to the kilometre markers between 4 and 6% and is therefore nowhere really steep, but 26 km long. Road surface is good, so that descending is also good. The road was on the Monday that we cycled not very busy. Recommended!

Aanrader dus!

Yesterday I cycled this col. Consider myself a novice climber. Really easy to do, great ride. Thanks for the info!

Gisteren deze col gefietst. Beschouw mezelf als beginnende klimmer. Echt prima te doen, heerlijk gefietst. Bedankt voor de info!

Yesterday, I climbed this col and started from the Bourg Saint Maurice campground. The climb starts directly in the direction of Seez and will not level off anywhere until the 2188m. A great runner! Recommended for the novice climber (like myself)
