It's the most regular pass I've ever climbed. The summit is sublime and the view over the valley is worth the diversions.

An exceptional pass that is a pleasure to climb. The views are superb all the way up and at the summit. The very long slope is smooth and rolling. The road is wide and has a very good surface, except for a few short sections that are more damaged. Traffic can be heavy as this is a famous border pass with Italy. At the summit you can hear and see many marmots and the Mont Blanc massif.

The gradients are always smooth and steady and the views are magnificent. The arrival at the summit in this sort of valley is magnificent and the descent back down allows you to measure the length of what you've just climbed.

Ascent done on 23 June'25 from B-S-M.
Ideal weather conditions. +/- 25 degrees and at the top still +/- 17 degrees. First climb of my (climbing) holiday in B-S-M so started slowly. Fine, steady climb where you can quickly follow your own rhythm so you have no problems on the nevertheless very long (30 km) climb. At 10 km. from the summit I had to take shelter at a rest area for walkers because a thunderstorm passed by. After 15 min it had passed and I was able to continue. It wasn't worth putting on a rain jacket. On top of the summit, a beautiful view with quite a few sights. Then I rode on to the Italian border. Then drove back down with the sun shining. Definitely recommended!
Beklimming gedaan op 23 juni'25 vanuit B-S-M.
Ideale weersomstandigheden. +/- 25 graden en boven op de top nog +/- 17 graden. De eerste beklimming van mijn (klim)vakantie in B-S-M dus rustig aan gestart. Fijne, gelijkmatige klim waar je snel je eigen ritme kan volgen zodat je geen problemen hebt op de toch zeer lange (30 km) beklimming. Op 10 km. van de top toch heel even moeten gaan schuilen op een rustplaats voor wandelaars omdat er een onweer passeerde. Na 15 min. was die voorbij en kon ik weer verder rijden. Het was de moeite niet om een regenvestje aan te trekken. Boven op de top een prachtig uitzicht met toch wel een aantal bezienswaardigheden. Dan ook maar eventjes verder gereden tot aan de grens van Italië. Vervolgens met het zonnetje weer terug naar beneden gereden. Zeker een aanrader!
Great climb to start with in this area! Steady around 5％. Last part after La Rosière can be very tough due to headwind. I had tailwind so doable. Sometimes beautiful views on top! Pasta in Italy poles it off 👍

A long but steady climb, perfect for those who like to pedal without too many hard climbs. The views are splendid, especially as you gain altitude. Despite its length, it is never overly demanding and allows you to fully enjoy the scenery. Ideal for a quiet day of cycling.

I don't often rate top marks but in this case I would say necessarily. For the view? Absolutely not. It's not bad at all but for the incredible constancy and pace that this long climb gives you. In the first 20 km only 3 km are not at 5 but at 4％. Everyone tackles it as they can with the countdown to the summit signalling and helping. It can be done in a seated push or by managing with agile ratios. So the panorama is not exceptional, the traffic bearable, the surface excellent. But I'd say the perfect climb for training

Seppur non è per niente male ma per la incredibile costanza e ritmo che ti regala questa lunga salita. Nei primi 20 km solo 3 km non sono al 5 ma al 4％. I set off from Aime to warm up in the cool of the morning, and the pass really begins at Seez, even though we climb a little all the way. There's nothing to say about the gradient, it's very, very even. The road isn't excellent at times, but overall it's fine. In my opinion, the traffic can be very heavy, so you can understand why. The start of the climb is hidden by the forest and the summit is in the mountain pastures. It's beautiful all the way!
The main thing is to manage your ascent well, because it's NEVER hard, just so long... And basically, it's not very interesting because it's very monotonous, but fortunately the scenery is magnificent.

Parti de Aime pour m'échauffer dans la fraicheur matinale, le col commence véritablement à Seez même si on monte un peu tout le long. Rien à dire sur le dénivelé, c'est très très régulier. La route n'est pas excellente parfois mais globalement ça va. La circulation peut à mon avis être très dense, comprenez pourquoi. Le début de la montée est cachée par la forêt et le sommet est dans les alpages. C'est beau tout le long!
L'essentiel est de bien gérer son ascension car ce n'est JAMAIS dur mais tellement long... Et dans le fond, ce n'est pas hyper intéressant car c'est très monotone, mais heureusement que les paysages sont magnifiques
First day open of the season and still impressive walls of snow for several kms near the top made for a really impressive ride. Consistently tough up to La Rosière, the last few kms are an absolute joy, and nice to dip a toe into Italy at the top. Climb done today, in the morning at 9am lots of shade and the whole climb is 5％, what more could you want. In total, 30 km of climbing is obviously a tough undertaking, but very nice climb with good tarmac (can't say the same about the Montvalezan side, drama tarmac with pits and bumps in the descent). Not very busy with traffic along the way, encountered several pro riders. After Rosiere, the views get prettier and prettier. In the descent, grabbing a coffee in La Rosiere (ski village) is also recommended.

A lovely chilled out climb with some drizzle to start, up through the clouds, then on to the ski resort La Rosière, above the tree line to the snow banks and the Col.
This climb gives 2 options. Via the original road by going straight ahead at the 7th hairpin (approximately), towards Montvalezan (that stretch can also be used as an alternative to the first part of d'Iseran up to Sante Foy-Tarentaise). This variant is shorter and steeper up to Hauteville. Behind Hauteville, the pink road follows until the junction. After the junction, ski village Rosiere soon follows. Don't speed through the village!

Goed lopende klim, geen steile stukken. Jezelf pacen is wel nodig, want 29 kilometer aan een stuk klimmen is lang. De weg is goed breed en overzichtelijk, zeker op het stuk na La Rosiere. Dat is ook het mooiste stuk van de klim, verre uitzichten en een heel mooi landschap.
This side of the Petit Saint Bernard pass is more challenging than and therefore slightly more enjoyable than the Italian side. From Bourg, it is an even climb where you can easily find your rhythm. In La Rosiere, you can stop for coffee and or lunch before continuing to the pass. Very worthwhile.

Opted for, the also signposted, classic D1090 route where from the start white-yellow kilometre markers with cycling info (distance to summit / ％ next km. / altitude) are present. You climb hairpin-like up the green valley flank with panoramic views of Bourg St. Maurice and its surroundings. After cycling through ugly ski village La Rosière, with summer recovery and construction activity,the route turns in to a beautiful bare mountain landscape to continue climbing slightly winding. The last two hairpin turns take you past the Roman column with statue St Bernard and the old Hospice building. They foreshadow the summit/border crossing a little further on the straight road. Pass height is pure mountain nature with catering and souvenir shop.
Road surface is variable in quality (lateral sometimes deep grooves/lapping / new asphalt).
Traffic was not too bad as I had the impression that most traffic took the Montvalezan route (more residential).
Blessed climb. In terms of gradient, the easiest and most even climb I know of to get above 2000m. Caution,not steep can still be tricky due to the long distance (+30 km continuous climbing)!

Franse zijde van de letterlijk grensoverschrijdende pas, die het Isère dal verbind met Italiaanse Aosta vallei, op een vroege woensdagochtend op gefietst (Augustus 2022).
Koos voor, de ook door de wegwijzers aangegeven, klassieke D1090 route waar van bij de start de wit gele kilometerpaaltjes met fietsinfo (afstand tot top / ％ volgende km. / hoogte) aanwezig zijn. Je klimt haarspeldbocht gewijs de groene valleiflank omhoog met panoramisch uitzicht op Bourg St. Maurice en omgeving. Na het doorfietsen van lelijk skidorp La Rosière, met zomerse herstel- en bouwbedrijvigheid,draait de route binnen in een mooi kaal berglandschap om licht kronkelend verder te klimmen. De twee laatste haarspeldbochten brengen je langs de Romeinse zuil met standbeeld St. Bernard en het oude Hospice gebouw. Ze zijn voorbode van de top/grensovergang even verder op de rechte weg. Pashoogte is puur bergnatuur met horeca en souvenirshop.
Wegdek is wisselend van kwaliteit (laterale soms diepe groeven/lappendeken / nieuw asfalt).
Verkeersdrukte viel mee want ik had de indruk dat het meeste verkeer de Montvalezan route (meer bewoning) nam.
Zalige klim. Qua stijgingspercentage de meest eenvoudige en gelijkmatige klim die ik ken om boven de 2000 m te komen. Opgepast,niet steil kan wel nog lastig zijn door de lange afstand (+30 km continu klimwerk)!
Ideale startklim voor beginnende bergfietsers.

Nowhere steeper than 6％, but 29km is quite a distance.
In the first part, the views of the valley are beautiful and Mont Pourri is your buddy who looks down on you, mighty.
When just outside La Rosière after 1.5km the road bends to the right, you find yourself in a completely different landscape.
The trees disappear, sometimes a tuft of snow and in the distance you can see the finish line.
At the end, two more hairpin bends and the top is reached.
On top, souvenirs and something to drink (French and Italian side). In good weather, you have a beautiful view of the Mont Blanc massif, unfortunately not for me that day.
I started the climb with 27C in the valley, and at the top I ended up with hail and thunder and temperatures below 10C. At the top I was able to hide from the rain, but after 4km on the descent all hell broke loose again and I could only dismount and make myself small on the side, I never want to experience that again.
But the climb is a nice one to start your Alpine stay with or to plan in on an in-between day.

In het eerste gedeelte zijn de uitzichten op het dal mooi en is Mont Pourri je buddie die op je neerkijkt, machtig.
Als net buiten La Rosière na 1,5km de weg rechtsaf buigt, kom je in een heel ander landschap terecht.
De bomen verdwijnen, af en toe een pluk sneeuw en ik de verte zie je de finish liggen.
Op het einde nog twee haarspeldbochtjes en de top is bereikt.
Bovenop souveniertjes en wat te drinken (franse en italiaanse kant). Bij mooi weer heb je een prachtig uitzicht op het Mont Blanc massief, helaas niet voor mij die dag.
Zelf begon ik de klim met 27C in het dal, en boven eindigde ik met hagel en onweer en temperaturen onder de 10C. Op de top kon ik de bui nog uitschuilen, maar na 4km in de afdaling brak weer de hel los en kon ik alleen maar afstappen en me klein maken langs de kant, wil ik nooit meer meemaken.
Maar de klim is een mooie om je Alpenverblijf mee te beginnen of in te plannen op een tussendag.

Lovely long climb that nowhere really heavy. In the summer crowded with cars's. Up no burden but with descending you often have to brake for the slower descending cars. Last piece, after the hairpin bends, is beautiful cycling.
Heerlijk lange klim die nergens echt zwaar wordt. In de zomer wel druk met auto's. Omhoog geen last van maar met afdalen moet je vaak in de remmen voor de trager afdalende auto's. Laatste stuk, na de haarspeldbochten, is prachtig fietsen.
