If you like "crazy" climbs with gradients and road surface conditions at the limit of what is practicable, the ascent to Capraga from Premosello and Colloro is for you.
The first part of the climb (up to the Church of Colloro) is a climb like many others, fairly paved, gradients never above 10%, with hairpin bends that make you take a little rest and allow some views of the valley below and Premosello.
Arriving at Colloro and glancing at the impressive wall to the right of the church that climbs towards the forest, one has to ask oneself a few questions: 4.2 km and a difference in altitude of 475 m d+ for an average gradient of 11.2%... would it be worth it? The numbers might not be frightening on paper but they are in reality. The climb is very uneven, especially in the section from the bridge to Capraga, and also has some downhill and uphill sections. In addition, the road surface from the bridge to Capraga is a disaster: asphalt patched in some way, gibbous (on the descent it will break your wrists and hands), a flood of debris and drainage ditches up to 30 cm wide, deep with two bricks to make them consistent with the road surface...
And the walls: slopes as steep as 20% with the asphalt described, continuous and long that cut your legs. The alternation of hellish walls and almost flat stretches, if on the one hand allows you to take a breather, on the other breaks the rhythm and gives you a real leg-breaker. The descent is, of course, dangerous due to the high gradients, painful asphalt, gullies and debris. I arrived at the bridge above Colloro with sore hands from brakes and stress (I was on a bdc and not a mtb). If you pass one of the very rare cars going to Alpe Capraga, it is impossible to pass on the move. Either the car or the bike must stop.
Honourable mention to the final wall at 19% and beyond and the tiny hamlet of the Alpe: the road ends at the fountain and becomes unpaved after a short climb to the left. There are two drinking fountains in the clearing (one is at another small group of houses at the foot of the final wall).
