It stings like hell from here too! I wonder if I haven't gone too far to look for the Chemin Saint Jean! See photo in the forest...
You don't start off as hard as you did on the Chemin de la Bastille, but you soon find the same path eating into your calves. A challenge. You get a taste for it! My back didn't hurt as much the second time, even though my bike was loaded.
Happy to have "discovered" this damn wall.
And then that 30% sign, I couldn't resist.

On y prend goût !

I arrived in Grenoble from Geneva at 5pm. I rented a road bike at Natura Velo, saw this climb on Google maps and decided I could ride up and down before dark. The climb was very difficult. The switchbacks were the only relief. When I got to the top it was 8pm. Sundown in 12 minutes. I flew down, locking up the rear in three of the switchbacks. I was at the bottom in 2:56. According to Strava, I have the fastest time for a man over 70 by more than a minute. It was a very exciting hour. I rode to the top of Chamrousse 1750 the next day.

A great ride to do on the way back from the Col de Vence to "finish"! Be careful on the descent, it's quite violent!

Blessedly heavy climb! This is from beginning to end and nothing to worry about. Too bad you have to ride it back down along the same road.

Zalig zware beklimming!

THE wall that every cyclist in Grenoble worthy of the name must have done at least once in his life, and more than once if affinities! It is the ideal place to test your small gears. Some hairpins to the right are very tricky or even impossible to negotiate, so be careful if a car comes in front. The road (narrow, be careful) is now in very good condition after having been damaged for a long time. A famous restaurant welcomes the valiant cyclists at the top in search of gustatory comfort, "Chez le Pèr'Gras". In the last hairpin is a stele in honour of Thierry Claveyrolat, a professional cyclist from the region, best climber in the 1990 Tour de France, who unfortunately died in 1999 at the age of 40 in tragic circumstances. Note that this climb can be made even tougher by starting not from the Mairie de La Tronche, but from the beginning of the Chemin de la Bastille itself, located a little below. The route is then shortened, and the steepness of the climb is directly attacked, so the average slope increases even more!
