Piece of cycling history. It actually consists of two separate climbs, the Schomminkel and the Baneberg. The schomminkel is my preferred one. Here you cycle up the hill from Dranouter on a narrow road. It goes well for a long time but after the campsite it gets very steep and you have to work anyway. When you then get to the main road you might think it's done but it's not. However, you can recuperate for 200m before attacking Baneberg. This consists of a nice S-curve. Classic from the Heuvelland with character. Built in two parts: first the Schomminkel that gradually warms up but finishes viciously, then after a short breather the Baneberg itself with its curves and solid ending.

Epic. The first part is just a flat warm-up. You can see from all the signs on the road that this is a historic climb, and you understand it even better when you get to the big drop. The route between the 2 walls is very pleasant. The second steep section is very special in that it has a lot of bends. A superb climb with real walls that are not too long.

I think it is steeper than the profile shows but still doable. Is so short that by standing on the pedals for a moment you are almost at the top.

Stuk wielergeschiedenis.

Beautiful climb through an almost idyllic landscape. It is done in steps so the steeper parts are quite manageable. After the second steep staircase, pay attention to the main road and then the last bit via the winding road at a higher percentage than indicated here.

The Schomminkel is an absolute beast where you can bring out all the gunpowder. Once you've crossed the Kwadestraat the real work starts. Before that you can enjoy the landscape to the left and to the right. When the climbing starts, it's best not to throw away all the powder at once. The last 400 meters of the Schomminkel is a two-stage rocket: just after the first steep part, you have a few dozens of meters to let your heart rate drop a few beats before you start the final wall. I myself am far from being a climber, so I only try to pedal on this last part as a last resort to finish the Schomminkel street. When arriving at the top, pay attention to the crossing of the busy road. Follow the slightly sloping bike path for 200 meters and you will arrive at the Banenberg (or 'Bananenberg according to Jan-Willem van Schip). This is a small beer opposite the Schomminkelstraat, but it's a lot of pulling and hauling to get to the top. It is best to catch your breath at the top, because the descents in all directions are quite fast, sometimes technical/dangerous because of the road surface or the fall of the leaves!
