This is the ideal mountain to go uphill with a recumbent, good road surface and not too steep. A recumbent can climb and up to a gradient of about 10% a well trained recumbent can reach a respectable speed, but when it gets steeper, it gets quite heavy and the speed goes down. The bike is heavier and you can't stand on the pedals like on a racing bike, you have to use a smaller gear to get up to the top. The only reason to take this one is if you want to ride quickly from Ruien to Ronse. Busy stone road with a bumpy cycle path next to it. For cadence training not bad considering the climb is quite long but then I still think there are much better options nearby. The climb is much more often used as a descent, although then I recommend paying attention as it is sometimes dangerous.

Not the prettiest climb perhaps but perfect for training due to the nice constant percentages. Very easy to ride constant wattage and for power blocks. After that, by the way, you can just ride straight on all the time and then you end up at the top of the hotond (then you have a total climb of about five kilometres at just under 3 percent average)

Not really recommended. Big track, lots of cars, the road surface is not super (concrete track), the percentages are not really worth it either.
You're better off doing the Oude Kwaremont, much harder, but much toffer: nicer, steeper, calmer and you've immediately done one of the most important climbs in Flanders!

It is a combination of habit, good physical condition, the right mindset and adapted gears. A well trained recumbent will ride a less well trained cyclist on such climbs out of the wheel, especially with a sporty recumbent like the Challenge Hurricane.
