Don't have any illusions about this climb: This will be stomping and raking. The start is a bit tricky to find but is opposite the entrance to Castle de Commanderie. It looks like a driveway but after the houses the road continues. From the start, the road immediately starts to climb. You pass a barrier that seems not to have been closed for ages (you can also pass it) and enter the forest where the road immediately goes up. You pass an information board which is one of the few reference points in terms of steepness. Further on it gets a little flatter along the edge of the forest but the next part (especially the first turn) is devastating for your legs and could possibly force you to get off the bike. Mind on 0 and keep on pounding is the motto. The road winds nicely up through the forest but you see very little of it. Suddenly the road flattens out and you're at the top. The asphalt stops at a side road and here you can easily turn. In the descent beautiful views of Sint-Pieters-Voeren.
In general, the climb is on reasonable asphalt (this ends after the climb, the road continues as flat forest road) but at 1 place there is grass growing in the middle (there are two asphalt tracks left) and elsewhere the sides are crumbled. It is always possible to stay on good asphalt but the good trail can be narrow. Now (in winter) there was quite a bit of leaf litter on the road, this may be better in spring and summer.
