The final part of one of Paris-Roubaix's three 5-star stages. The cobbles are not designed to be comfortable, and this sector can be very muddy, so be careful. Exposed to the wind.
One of the cobbled sectors rated 5 stars in Paris-Roubaix. In my opinion, the cobbles in the blockade are much less vicious than those in the Trouée d'Arenberg. They are less disjointed, less irregular and less protruding. And in some places, dusty earth fills the gaps between the stones.
I managed to ride much faster than at Arenberg.
That said, it was still very shaky.
The day after Paris-Roubaix, the tractors were back at work on these roads which, above all, are farm tracks.
This is really hard because before this you have already had the first part of Mons-en-Pévèle. Especially the little left turn completely takes away what little speed you had left. Waiver to the big track!
At no point are you concerned with the fact that you are gradually climbing, as you are only concerned with surviving the cobblestones. Obviously epic to cycle once though! At the end, you can climb on to the village of Mons-en-Pevele.
Firm stretch of cobblestones. The entire strip (5 stars in Paris-Roubaix) amounts to 3km. When you get to this last stretch of false flat, you are already pretty shaken up. The cobblestones are in a bad shape and usually covered in a layer of mud. If you find the courage to look around, you get a view of Pevelenberg and the church of Mons-en-Pévèle. I climbed Pevelenberg via the West side after the rattling on the cobblestones, also highly recommended.
Stevig stuk kasseien.
