Very long and hard, but as much as it is hard it is also stunning. Beautiful climb and landscape. The tarmac is quite bad and going down the same way you could really feel it. One of the toughest climbs around. I would still rank the zoncolan as harder but we're not that far off!
A very tough climb in a spectacular and varied environment: from mid-mountain with its villages to a majestic fir forest and ending in a pleasant alpine environment.
The ascent is absolutely steady, which is both the greatest difficulty (not a single moment's respite is allowed, except for the few metres where you cross the villages, which are all in the first half anyway) and a help, because if you manage to pick up your pace in the first few ramps you will "only" have to continue in this way to the summit.
Road surface at the time of my ascent (29/07/2023) in a very bad state in the second half, if you descend this slope you must exercise extreme caution.
If you love big climbs and high mountains, this climb is for you
Magnificent, but mercilessly difficult climb in an oasis of peace and quiet. You experience the feeling of being alone in the world during almost the entire climb. However, the climb is murderous as it rarely drops below double percentages. The steepest percentages (above 15%) you will encounter in the last kilometers in a series of beautiful, short hairpin bends.
Although unknown, remote and in the shadow of Monte Zoncolan, this is a real must. I estimate that it is at least as difficult as the infamous Zoncolan, maybe even higher...
