5.0 by MarcinN87Great (both size, effort and pleasure) climb! A bit bumpy road through La Tourmaz - careful on downhill. Above the village almost no traffic. Below the traffic is perfectly fine, and as the road is wide - no stress here as well. ... read more

Really enjoyable climb. Rear lights are mandatory for 6-7 tunnels. There is a little traffic in the earlier part but nothing extreme and the road is very wide and in excellent condition. There are road markings until the ski station which help drivers behave a little better. After the station there is a forest passage which is a little lumpy with a mix of very short, somewhat steep little ramps of 10-11% but these never last too long. The road for the last few kilometers is in quite poor condition, I descended back down the climb and it was definitely a little sketchy until the ski station, then it is a nice descent on a perfect road after that.
A very pleasant climb, quite long and on a very good road, although quite busy in the first part, to the resort. The slope is fairly even, with no real jolts.
I did it at the beginning of June, and there were still traces of snow on the sides of the road near the summit!
Not for nothing the favourite climb of olympic champion Anna Kiesenhofer.
The first half is a wide track with gooey tarmac up to La Tzoumaz. This can be slightly busier than the rest of the climb, but still much quieter than the Verbier side or then cycling to Nendaz first. There are some tunnels where a tail light is advisable though, even if they are quite straight and quite short.
It really is a long climb, so definitely consider refilling a drink can at the little fountain right opposite the big ski lift in La Tzoumaz. Drinking a cola't on a terrace is of course never a mistake there either.
The second half is truly prodigious. It becomes a smaller asphalt track of lesser quality but with no traffic. This one takes you up above the tree line, be sure to look out for marmots. At the very top you are rewarded with a stunning view of the Combin massif in front of you, with the Mont-Blanc massif further to your right. At the top there is a car park with 50 flat metres of Gravel, but nothing that a normal racing bike with normal tyres can't cross without a problem.
It's also a very nice climb to do in the area. The route is good and the scenery superb throughout. There is a bit more traffic on the first half, up to Tsoumaz. However, lighting is essential as there are several tunnels in the first half, where there are frequently cars and visibility is reduced.
There is a beautiful view of Verbier at the top.
