This variant was climbed during the heatwave of early September 2023 because the usual route from La Terrasse was blocked for roadworks.
But what a discovery! It's a sort of little brother of the Col de la Loze but in reverse, i.e. from km2 to km6, it's a hell of a series of very steep ramps, your GPS will indicate portions (sometimes long) of 11, 14, 16 and even 18%!
The third plateau is necessary, and if it's hot, it's even harder!
Once you've been through this hell, the rest of the pass will be a "simple" formality, even with regular slopes at 7 and 8% which will then seem rather easy!
BONUS to do: continue over the Col de l'Oeillon to the Crêt de Botte and add 1.7km at an average of 10%.
In total, you'll then have a pass of almost 14km and 1000m of D+, with some very tough ramps.
A hors catégorie pass! But it's all fun and games, with very few if any cars on the first half of the climb.
