With the right preparations perfectly doable and very nice climb. I had gravel tyres of 30mm and a good light fitted. One tunnel definitely needs this as it is long and rough, the other 3 not really. To my feeling, the percentages here in the profile are not really correct, in fact, to my feeling, the climb after the turn from the road to the Col de Porte is pretty constant in terms of steepness until just before the monastery. All the time between 10-13 per cent. So I did not experience the super steep outliers of 100m at 17 per cent. After the monastery it flattens out a bit and becomes unpaved. Then comes the long tunnel. In this and after that the percentage is still firm, somewhere around 9 per cent I expect. Then the road curves towards the last tunnel. On this stretch it is almost flat. After the last tunnel, it gets steeper again and the last 1.5 kilometres feels tough and is also constantly around 12-13 ％ until about's 100m before the summit.
Met de juiste voorbereidingen prima te doen en zeer mooie klim. Ik had gravel banden van 30mm en een goede lamp gemonteerd. Een tunnel is dit zeker bij nodig, want die is lang en ruw, de andere 3 niet echt. Voor mijn gevoel kloppen de percentages hier in het profiel niet echt, voor mijn gevoel is de klim na de afslag van de weg naar de Col de Porte namelijk vrij constant qua steilheid tot vlak voor het klooster. De hele tijd tussen de 10-13 procent. De supersteile uitschieters van 100m aan 17 procent heb ik dan ook niet ervaren. Na het klooster vlakt het wat af en wordt het onverhard. Dan volgt de lange tunnel. Hierin en daarna is het percentage nog stevig, ergens rond de 9 procent verwacht ik. Daarna gaat de weg in een bocht richting de laatste tunnel. Op dit stuk is het vrijwel vlak. Na de laatste tunnel wordt het weer steeds steiler en de laatste 1,5 kilometer voelt zwaar aan en is ook constant rond de 12-13 ％ tot zo'n 100m voor de top.

Update 2023: you shouldn't even try it with the road bike - I accidentally took the downhill and was sweating blood. In the bat tunnel I carried the bike and balanced over the ledge with my cycling shoes on the edge, with the mobile phone torch in my hand.
The landscape is great, but the path is more suitable for hiking...
Update 2023: mit dem Rennrad sollte man es gar nicht erst versuchen - ich habe versehentlich die Abfahrt genommen und habe Blut und Wasser geschwitzt. Im Fledermaustunnel habe ich das Rad getragen und bin mit den Radschuhen am Rand über den Sims balanciert, mit der Handytaschenlampe in der Hand.
Die Landschaft ist großartig, aber der Weg ist eher zum Wandern geeignet…
I confirm the summary of Franck, I made this climb in 2008 with full knowledge of the causes, the road is privatized and no longer maintained after the Chartreuse de Currière (Monastery)
The fine at the time was 130€.

Il y a plusieurs tunnels dont celui des Agneaux, très défoncé et noir, je l'ai traversé à pieds.
Be careful, the road on this side of the Charmette pass, which is certainly splendid, has not been maintained for about thirty years... Moreover, since the same period, a portion of about 4 km is forbidden to all vehicles, in the vicinity of the Chartreuse de Curière. Bikes are not allowed either. I climbed this pass a long time ago, in 1996: the road was already in a very bad state and the recent feedback I have received tells me that it has not improved, on the contrary. Only to be done on a mountain bike or gravel bike with very good lighting (passing through several tunnels, one of which is long and dark with a completely broken surface) if you don't fear the potential fine for breaking the ban (over 100 euros, from memory).
Attention, la route de ce versant, certes splendide, du col de la Charmette n'est plus entretenue depuis une trentaine d'années… De plus, depuis la même époque une portion de 4 km environ est carrément interdite à tout véhicule, dans les environs de la Chartreuse de Curière. Les vélos ne sont donc pas autorisés non plus. J'ai quand même grimpé ce col il y a longtemps, en 1996 : la route était déjà en très mauvais état et les échos récents que j'en ai eu m'ont appris que cela ne s'était pas amélioré, au contraire. À ne faire qu'en VTT ou vélo gravel avec un très bon éclairage (passage de plusieurs tunnels dont un long et sombre avec un revêtement complètement défoncé) si vous ne craignez pas l'amende potentielle pour avoir enfreint l'interdiction (plus de 100 euros, de mémoire).
