The most exciting thing about this climb was my blowout. If you still want to make something of it: ride west of the motorway between Steinach and Gries, percentages between 10 and 20%.

No flame in the pipe, still a nice experience to go over the (old) Brenner Pass. Most traffic takes the motorway and certainly the first part via Igls is nice and quiet. The start of the climb is very steep though (whole sukken >10%) and you feel that all the way to the top of the climb. The last stretch is also spicier than the description suggests.

Geen vlam in de pijp, toch een mooie ervaring om over de (oude) Brennerpass te gaan. Het meeste verkeer pakt de snelweg en zeker het eerste stuk via Igls is lekker rustig. Het begin van de klim is wel heel stijl (hele sukken >10%) en dat voel je tot aan de top van de klim. Ook het laatste stuk is pittiger dan de omschrijving doet vermoeden.

A nice climb, but not one you want to come back to often. The first steep part is nice because of the view on Innsbruck but after that it climbs for ages at a just not nice gradient. Not steep enough and not flat enough. By the way, you pass through pretty villages, but overall just a climb you have to overcome to get to the next one (in our case the Jaufenpass). In the graph it says 4% at the end of the climb, my gauges indicated a lot more than that. The last kilometer before the road flattens out completely and you enter Brenner was more like 7-8%. But to end on a positive note: the absolute highlight of the Brenner was the descent. Take the bike path here, no tough stuff from cyclists on the road. The bike path leads over an old railway track (including abandoned stations!) and it goes down continuously like this 4%. Lovely to let your bike roll, at the bottom it gets a bit more technical with tight hairpins and small hills and descents in the bike path. Highly recommended, even more so than the climb!

Een leuke klim, maar niet eentje waar je vaak terug wilt komen. Het eerste steile stuk is mooi vanwege het uitzicht op Innsbruck maar daarna klimt het vooral ellenlang door tegen een net niet leuk stijgingspercentage. Niet steil genoeg en ook weer niet vlak genoeg. Overigens kom je door fraaie dorpjes hoor, maar overall gewoon een klim waar je overheen moet om bij de volgende te komen (in ons geval de Jaufenpass). In de grafiek staat bij het stuk aan het einde 4%, mijn metertjes gaven wel redelijk veel meer dan dat aan. De laatste kilometer voordat het volledig afvlakt en je even later Brenner inrijdt was eerder richting de 7-8%. Maar om met een positieve noot te eindigen: het absolute hoogtepunt van de Brenner vond ik de afdaling. Pak hier resoluut het fietspad, geen stoer gedoe van wielrenners horen op de weg. Het fietspad leidt namelijk over een oud spoortracé (inclusief verlaten stationnetjes!) en dat gaat continu zo 4% naar beneden. Heerlijk om je fiets te laten rollen, onderin wordt het wat technischer met krappe haarspeldjes en kleine heuveltjes en afdalingen in het fietspad. Een aanrader, nog meer dan de klim!
