A nice variant to bypass the first busy stretch between Bludenz and Brand is via Bürs (Felbaweg). You then arrive at Brand via Galaferda. This variant is a footpath between the forests, about 3 metres wide, only accessible to hikers/cyclists and fully asphalted.
The intermediate section in Brand is quite manageable.
The last 6 km, from the Palüdbhan, are tough. Very often 9% and more. For me, the traffic was not too bad.
When the bus passes is sometimes narrow though :-)

Left at 10.00 am to avoid the worst heat. The first part to Brand is very busy with cars. Then it gets better, until the parking lot at the gondola.

This climb was harder than I expected! The average percentage is deceptive. You have a tough start, then an easy middle section and finally another tough section to the 'top'.

The tarmac is good and the views are beautiful!

Sheltered climb on good tarmac which you can actually divide into two parts, with a part false flat in between. The first part from Bürs you climb on a winding road through the forest to Bürserberg. Until the winter sports village of Brand, the road still undulates a bit and you ride through two short tunnels. After the village, the road becomes narrower and the last five kilometres to the end of the valley are the toughest of the climb.

You end up at the parking lot at the base station of the Lünerseebahn. This cable car to the Lünersee was renewed in 2019 and is incredibly popular. During the day in high season there are therefore traffic jams with (turning) cars's on the last part of the road. In 2020 I did the climb 'early morning (left at 7am from Bürs) and then it is still wonderfully quiet, but in the descent already had a few "near misses" with oncoming tourists. Because the road is so narrow, I would not recommend driving up or down here during the day.
