I did this climb as part of the Engadin rad marathon and it is one of my favourite climbs. You start in a narrowing valley in a road with lots of curves. As the valley narrows, the road gets steeper and you often cycle in a gorge-like environment. After the steepest stretch, you come to more typical high-mountain views with alpine meadows, some snow here and there. 2 things add to the climb: the company of the railway. A spectacular climb. Its long and by the time you get to the top its like being on the surface of the moon. As you slowly climb up and up you can see the train weave its way up the valley and enjoy the amazing scenery.

An absolute classic. Spectacular route around the "Bergünerstein" with dazzling views into the gorge. Then the train line between Bergün and Preda adds great entertainment as you can see the trains cross the bridges and disappear and re-appear in the tunnels. After that, you enter marvellous alpine scenery with magnificent Palpuognasee to look at. A "must do", no doubt.

After the steepest stretch, you come to more typical high-mountain views with alpine meadows, some snow here and there. 2 things add to the climb: the company of the railway. You pass continuous railway bridges that pop up unexpectedly, it comes right out of a Märklin landscape. Secondly, about halfway you pass a cobblestone strip totally unexpectedly

I'd say it's the most beautiful pass I've ever climbed (so far).

The tarmac is good and the gradient is very variable. It starts on a false flat, then there are quite steep areas that alternate with other false flats and the end is hard but constant. Above all, it gets harder because of the time you've been climbing and the elevation.

But it's all worth it for the beautiful villages it crosses, the green conifers in summer and yellow in autumn, the lake near the end, the lunar mountains on the sides when you reach the top, the fantastic views backwards, the stone bridges you cross, the aqueduct above your head.

It really is worth cycling up this pass (or driving up and stopping multiple times to take photos).

Absolutely must if you have the means and the stamina. It is not a hard climb initially but it does ramp up from Bergun. The views are stunning and the road was quiet. Started in St Moritz, climbed over the Julier pass from Silvaplana, then up the Albula. One of the best days in the saddle so far.

The most beautiful so far. Climbed dozens of mountains by now, but this one is number one in terms of beauty. Every metre is different and some are more beautiful than others. Sometimes you don't know where to look. We too were in the fortunate circumstances that the road was closed to motorised traffic. There was a warning about avalanche danger. Five times we crawled under barriers and even climbed over a pile of snow. All very irresponsible. Admittedly. However, the reward was well worth it. Put this one on your list and enjoy.

A wonderful pass on a mostly relatively quiet road. An absolute must for all cycling fans. The Albula Pass is also part of the Alpen Challenge.

Superb, long and steady ascent with a start from Tiefenkastel that allows 10 km of falsopiano and subsequent warm-up. I found the first few kilometres more challenging than the graph suggests. A real mountain pass with spectacular views of the valley below. Fairly heavy traffic in the opposite direction for a car rally. Constant presence of water along the route at every village. Great pity there is NO CARTEL indicating the remaining distance, the gradient. Road signs are also very rare. Why? You could make much better use of such a beautiful climb

This one is really quite fun. Great, beautiful surroundings, and even though it's quite long, there's a natural coffee break spot in Bergün. We were lucky that the road up from Preda was closed for motorized traffic. The view at the top is ruined a by the power line, otherwise it would get 5 stars!

Beautiful climb that I started in Surava, near Tiefencastel. The 1st kilometres you can enjoy the surroundings. Just before mountain village Bergün, the real climb starts. Here, the percentages rise sharply, while the views become more and more beautiful. In between, you regularly see the typical Swiss trains pass by, a great sight. In the final kilometres you are occasionally confronted with steep sections, but it never becomes really hard. Unique climb in a beautiful setting.

Beautiful climb and very doable. This because there are parts which are fairly flat. Between Filisur and Bergün there is a nice piece where it is firmly climbing. After Bergün where the railway crosses the road also. After Preda and the beautiful lake you can start again. All in all a good and beautiful climb.

Beautiful climb with varied landscape, good to do. Not very steep but just very long. I enjoyed it today, thanks for the tip. (;

Schitterende beklimming met afwisselende landschap, goed te doen. Niet heel stijl maar gewoon heel lang. Ik heb er vandaag van genoten, bedankt voor de tip. (;
