Intensely bad road surface, but definitely worth this climb. The views on the Vesuvius and the sea are definitely worth it. If you survive the first piece (very steep), then the rest is also possible because it is just a bit less steep. You should not expect more than 1 or 2 cars on the road during the climb. Once at the top you come to a new asphalt road and you have a great descent. Bad road surface up is not a problem for me because you go slowly anyway.... read more

This is a great climb. An old and closed road of traffic, making it wonderfully quiet cycling. The only other living souls on this route were a couple of old men looking for wild delicacies.
Indeed the road surface is pitifully bad, but uphill you can easily manoeuvre around that. Descending definitely take the other route down (the road surface is fine there).

Fantastic views over the bay, Vesivius and also the nature around it is great.

Not often cycled such a beautiful and natural route.

It is the most difficult climb in the province of Naples, as far as the roundabout where the intersection with the road to Moiano is located, the road surface is very poor, the last time this road was paved was over fifty years ago, I advise against using a road bike on the climb, and on the return journey I recommend going down the other road, first to Moiano and then to Vico, on a road surface in good condition. Up to the roundabout, the traffic is almost non-existent, the cars, motorbikes and scooters that you encounter along the way can be counted on the fingers of your hands, almost always with only one hand. The gradients are quite steep only on the first ramp, at the fourth kilometre, where there is a small statue of the Madonna on the right, and on the last ramp of a hundred metres or so before reaching the top. Due to the presence of numerous trees, the road is almost always in the shade, protecting cyclists from the sun on hot summer days.
The view is very beautiful, especially near the bar near the roundabout; at the top, some pine trees planted near the RAI antennas have obscured part of the view of Sorrento and Capri. For those who have the opportunity, I recommend walking to Mount San Catello, the highest peak, at over 1400 metres, where there is the most beautiful scenery in the province of Naples and it is possible to see the entire Gulf of Naples and most of the Gulf of Salerno, although unfortunately it is not accessible by bicycle.
I recommend this climb to all cyclists with a good enough level of fitness to tackle it, who live in the province of Naples,
At the fourteenth kilometre, turning left, it is possible to deviate to the cable car forecourt, at an altitude of 1100 metres, and to continue along the ridge and after three hairpin bends rejoin the road that leads to the summit

Road has only gotten worse. Very occasionally you can still recognise a patch of asphalt if you pay attention. You should actually ride this climb on a mountain bike, but miraculously I didn't get a puncture. Fortunately, the view makes up for a lot, and the cappuccino 4.5 km below the summit was no problem either. Very happy with the descent on the other side of the mountain.

Beautiful views of Vesuvius. Poor road surface indeed but is manageable. Beautiful hairpin bends and on top a beautiful view. On the road no traffic encountered only a few wild horses
