The start is also one of the harder parts, and thus your legs are tired from the beginning (of course, they might already be tired before beginning if you climbed from the valley). The hairpins are the easiest part (at least the outside) and can offer a chance to take a short break to catch your breath. The view from the climb is amazing, so remember to stop and enjoy it. The climb itself is also a pretty one, going through first a meadow and then some trees. The top is at a very nice tunnel. The tunnel is unlit, but quite short.
The tarmac on the climb is not great, but it is quite manageable. The worst part is at the bottom, where there are deep ruts. If you like to swerve when climbing, this is a big problem.
I saw a couple cars when climbing, both headed up the climb. Even though there weren't many cars, every car is a problem as the road is quite narrow.
When descending I will recommend continuing down to the Stegtunnel.
