The worst part of the climb is the road to its start - heavy fast traffic (when starting from Martigny)...
A very pleasant ascent in magnificent surroundings. There is quite a lot of traffic up to Verbier, then the road becomes narrower and less busy on the final stretch. The view from the summit is truly superb.
Coming from Martigny, there are already a few metres in altitude to overcome. The ascent remains harmonious on very good tarmac. However, there is a lot of traffic up to Verbier. At the top there is snow until late spring, which should be taken into account when planning. The view is phenomenal. Not an easy climb overall.
Insgesamt kein leichter Anstieg.
Very solid, steady climb up to Verbier. Traffic was honestly quite harsh and there's not much space on the road. After Verbier though almost completely car free. Here it remains steady but the incline robustly increases. It's not quite a big enough change to make a huge visual difference but the difference in effort is substantial. Last few kilometers the road quality declines somewhat but is still very serviceable. If the traffic obliges the descent back down to Le Chable can be truly rapid and very enjoyable.
This climb starts at the roundabout in Le Chable.
If you come from Martigny, you first have to ascend 350 altimeters over 20km.
The first part brings you to Verbier village and that track is really busy, but apparently there is an alternative track with hard gravel.
Once in Verbier, it is really beautiful, above you quickly in nature and the view is phenomenal and asphalt in very good condition. But: in winter, the snow is not cleared. If you want to continue, the other way down to La Tzoumaz, you have to go over gravel.
Worthwhile if you are there!
