Incredible climb, full of emotion, long and demanding, perfect surface, I recommend doing it in the morning, from Sainte Marie around 8:30 am, traffic was fairly light all the way to the summit.

A beast of a climb. I rode into the clouds and was glad to have some shelter in the tunnels, along with the sheep. No time to take pictures at the top, quickly down to better weather.

A legendary climb, completed at the end of October in pleasant sunshine but slightly cool temperatures. The first few kilometres are not very demanding and are in a straight line. The most mental part for me were the kms approaching La Mongie and crossing it. The last 3km weren't marked when we passed (end of season?) and the summit sign was only inside the summit café, which also serves as an exhibition of collectables and photos. Once past La Mongie the views are splendid and we had to share the road with llamas (no aggression towards cyclists noted).
Don't forget to check the weather at the top of the mountain using the webcam on the La Mongie resort website, which gives you a live view of the last few sections of the pass. Glad to have climbed this monument to cycling.
Ascension légendaire, effectuée fin octobre sous un agréable soleil mais dans des températures un peu fraiches. Les premiers kms ne sont pas très exigeants et en ligne droite. La portion la plus mentale pour moi sont les kms en approche de La Mongie ainsi que sa traversée. Les 3 dernières kms n'étaient pas bornés à notre passage (fin de saison?) et la panneau du sommet n'était que à l'intérieur du café au sommet, qui fait aussi office d'exposition de pièces de collection et de photos. Une fois La Mongie passée la vue est splendide et nous avons eu à partager la route avec des lamas (pas d'agressivité remarquée envers les cyclistes).
Pensez à vérifier la météo au sommet vie la webcam sur le site de la station de la Mongie qui permet de voir les dernières portion du col en directe. Heureux d'avoir gravit ce monument du cyclisme.
Nice climb because it is of the outer category and because it is famous from the Tour, but...if you really want to do a nice climb you should do it from the other side (choice between the old legendary route or the new route). Arrival of this climb is a bit disappointing. By the way, the coffee at the top tasted really good!
Mooie beklimming omdat hij van de buitencategorie is en omdat hij bekend is van de Tour, maar..als je echt een mooie klim wilt doen dan moet je hem vanaf de andere kant doen (keuze tussen de oude legendarische route of de nieuwe route). Aankomst van deze klim valt wat tegen. Overigens de koffie boven smaakte heel goed!
Setting off from Lac de Payolle, the first few kilometres on the outskirts of Sainte Marie de Campan give you a chance to warm up. After that, you take advantage of this legendary climb, which is still accessible. It's still a long 17km, but with no ascent beforehand, it finishes pretty cool!

I also liked the side from Luz Saveur better, mainly because the landscape then gradually becomes more jagged. From this side, the ski resorts and a few tunnels still predominate. The last few climbs are fantastic though!

A superb climb in terms of both the views and the sporting challenge. Quite a steady slope, with a bit of traffic, and a mysterious atmosphere when we went up, with quite a bit of fog. The road is covered with tags reminiscent of the greatest moments of the Tour de France.
Ascension superbe tant au niveau de la vue, que du challenge sportif. Pente assez régulière, avec un peu de traffic, avec une atmosphère mystérieuse lorsque nous y sommes allés avec pas mal de brouillar. La route est recouverte de tag rappelant les plus grands moments du tour de France.

We came up the valley from Bagneres-di-Bigorre. However, the road was very busy, with lots of lorries and buses so not enjoyable. Once you reach St-Marie-Campan it quietened down significantly, though traffic was noticeable (though perhaps because the ascent from the other side was closed for roadworks). June can be a tricky month for getting around as it is the month between the roads being accessible after winter and the busy holiday period so it is when they do the roadworks. During our 5 day stay all or parts of the Col du Tourmalet, Col de Solour and Col D'Aspin were closed to traffic).
The climb is gentle to start but quickly gets tougher, and stays that way until the top. The first steep part wraps itself round a forested hill, after which you approach the ugly ski resort of La Mongia. The only good thing to be said is that staring open-mouthed at its amazingly unimaginative buildings takes your mind off the climb for a few kilometres. After La Mongia, the climb is above the tree level but in good weather you can see the top - that and the hairpins make it an enjoyable last section. The views at the top are spectacular if you are lucky with the weather. On the day we did it we were able to descend down the other side by ducking under the barriers at the top and 3km further down, and meant there were no cars in that section and very few (whose hopes were about to be crushed that the signs were inaccurate) afterwards. The road down the other side is an especially great feat of engineering, as the first few hundred metres down it has to sweep across the face of the mountainside, as there is no river valley to follow. Thereafter, it follows the torrent steeply down to Luc-St-Sauveur. The road on this side is actually heavily patched up in places, and was quite bumpy considering it used in the TdF so often. Nevertheless, a great days cycling in fantastic weather. The per km gradients are no more than 8％/9％ which makes it manageable, but because of the height of the climb they just go on for much longer than in other climbs in the area.

As for my climb in terms of cycling, done on 10 June 2023 it was rolling, like many I think, from Ste Marie to Gripp, then it didn't disconnect any more ... The parts where I suffered the most were the paravalanches before La Mongie and the crossing of this village, but if you manage and push a bit more when you feel it, it goes very well.
For the record, even as a child I used to watch the exploits of the cyclists with my grandfathers and we used to wait for the Tourmalet every summer. It was the stage I was most looking forward to, and I even asked my parents to go on holiday in the area so I could see the pass... At that time (2010) I had never been on a road bike and I was perhaps unconsciously dreaming of one day being able to climb it...
And in July 2021 I did, on an electric bike with my partner, via Ste Marie, and that day I promised myself I'd come back, this time with my leg. So I bought my road bike in August 2021 and I've been training, in the meantime I've done the Galibier, the Izoard, the Granon, the Ventoux 6 times, including one crazy one ... but nothing in terms of sensation will surpass this pass, which for me is the greatest and most legendary in the history of cycling, both for the stories on these roads and the aura it gives off. The Tourmalet is the Tour de France, Eugène Christophe, Tatave (with its statue at the summit), the Contador-Schleck duel, Thibaud's victory... Nothing can match it, and I'm proud to have ridden it, I'd never say I'm defeated for such a monument. Even 3 years ago, I could never have imagined that one day I'd be able to win it, and sometimes I think that my naivety has taken me a long way.

Pour ce qui est de ma montée en terme de cyclisme, fait le 10 juin 2023 elle fût roulante, comme beaucoup je pense, de Ste Marie a Gripp, puis ça ne débranche plus ... Les passages ou j'ai le plus souffert sont les paravalanches avant la Mongie et la traversée de ce village, mais en gestion et en appuyant un peu plus quand on le sens, ça passe très bien.
Pour la petite histoire, petit déjà je regardais avec mes grands-pères les exploits des cyclistes et on attendais le Tourmalet tout les étés. C'était l'étape que j'attendais le plus, j'avais même demandé a mes parents d'aller en vacances dans le coin pour pouvoir voir ce col ... A cette époque (2010) je n'était jamais monté sur un vélo de route et je rêvais peut être inconsciemment d'un jour pouvoir le gravir...
Et en juillet 2021 ce fut chose faite en vélo électrique avec ma compagne, par Ste Marie déjà, et ce jour la, je me suis promis de revenir, et cette fois à la jambe. J'ai donc acheté mon vélo de route en aout 2021 et je me suis entraîné, entre temps j'ai fait le Galibier, l'Izoard, le Granon, le Ventoux 6x dont un cinglé ... mais rien en terme de sensation ne dépassera ce col qui est pour moi le plus grand et le plus légendaire de l'histoire du cyclisme, tant par les histoires en ces routes que l'aura qu'il à. Le Tourmalet, c'est le Tour de France, Eugène Christophe, Tatave (avec sa statue au sommet), le duel Contador-Schleck, la victoire de Thibaud ... Rien ne l'égalera, et je suis fier de l'avoir emprunté, je ne dirais jamais vaincu pour un tel monument. Jamais je n'aurait pu penser un jour, il y'a encore 3 ans en arrière, l'accrocher au palmarès, je me dis parfois que ma naïveté m'a emmené loin.
I did this climb with my wife on the day the tour de France femmes finished here. The climb is tough but very beautiful. There was little traffic as the main road was closed, only VIPs were still allowed to go up. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to drive the last 200 metres so we did not see the monument at the top. The last kilometres were in the fog anyway which was a shame on the one hand but also has something mythical about it on the other. As far as we are concerned, this is a col not to be missed.
Ik heb deze klim samen met mijn vrouw gedaan op de dag dat de tour de France femmes hier finishte. De klim is zwaar maar erg mooi. Er was weinig verkeer omdat de doorgaande weg afgesloten was, alleen vips mochten nog naar boven. Helaas mochten wij de laatste 200 meter niet rijden waardoor we het monument op de top niet gezien hebben. De laatste kilometers waren sowieso in de mist wat enerzijds erg jammer was maar anderzijds ook wel iets mythisch heeft. Wat ons betreft is dit een col die je niet mag missen.
They moved the statue! Probably, at it's old spot, it was eventually causing too many traffic problems between picture taking cyclists and cars... The view down the other end is way more attractive than that of this end, but the descend back to Sainte-Marie-de-Campan is an adrenaline rush.

From the very beginning, only one thing went through my mind: dose, dose, dose. The first kilometres invite to test the legs. But the Tourmalet is long, and gruelling.... After a good 5 kilometres of spinning, the easy stretches are over. From here on, it already gets a bit harder work. For the next four kilometres you grind around and around the 8％ average. Not overly hard, you get it around easily provided you have the right gears fitted.
The next kilometre the average gets steeper; this is a first test. If your heart rate skyrockets here, no problem! On the slightly less steep stretches, try to temporise a bit, forget about that climb record for a moment...because if you don't make it to the top, you won't have a record time to set at all.
Around 6 kilometres before the summit, it is all hands on deck: several strips of well over 10％ (peaks of up to 18％) follow each other in rapid succession. One particular hairpin even touches 24％ if you go full inside, and that is a bit of a blow.
Afterwards, from about's 4 kilometres from the summit onwards, it goes up surprisingly smoothly and evenly: long clear strips of about's 7％ are a welcome relief, the pressure running right off your legs. Lovely!
Just before the summit, the road rises again to about'n 11 to 12％. But to be honest, if you have already come this far, you don't turn your hand to this. Gas up that lollipop and pound away!
De Col du Tourmalet boezemde mij eerlijk gezegd serieus wat angst in. Het is een col die gespekt is met heroïsche verhalen geschreven tijdens tal van grote rondes, zo'n klepper beklim je niet zomaar...
Vanaf het prille begin ging er maar één ding door mijn hoofd: doseren, doseren, doseren. De eerste kilometers nodigen uit om de benen te testen. Maar de Tourmalet is lang, en slopend... Na goed 5 kilometer ronddraaien is het uit met de gemakkelijke stroken. Vanaf hier wordt het al wat harder werken. De komende vier kilometer maal je om en bij de 8％ gemiddeld. Niet overdreven zwaar, je krijgt het makkelijk rond mits je de juiste versnellingen hebt gemonteerd.
De volgende kilometer loopt het gemiddeld steiler op, dit is een eerste test. Als je hartslag hier de hoogte inschiet, geen probleem! Probeer op de iets minder steile stroken wat te temporiseren, vergeet dat klimrecord even...want als je niet tot aan de top geraakt, dan heb je helemaal geen recordtijd vast te zetten.
Zo'n 6 kilometer voor de top is het even alle hens aan dek: verschillende stroken van dik boven de 10％ (uitschieters tot 18％) volgen elkaar in sneltempo op. Een bepaalde haarspeldbocht tikt zelfs even de 24％ aan als je vol voor de binnenzijde gaat, en dat komt wel even binnen.
Nadien loopt het vanaf zo'n 4 kilometer van de top verrassend soepel en gelijkmatig op: lange overzichtelijke stroken van zo'n 7％ zijn een welkome verlichting, de druk loopt zo van je benen. Heerlijk!
Vlak voor de top loopt de weg alweer op tot zo'n 11 à 12％. Maar eerlijk gezegd, als je al zo ver bent gekomen dan draai je hier je hand niet meer voor om. Gas op die lolly en beuken maar!

Be aware that with this distance you will be climbing for an hour to 1.5 hours, so don't get all spice in the first part of your climb. Mooie klim met prachtige uitzichten. Qua moeilijkheidsgraad valt deze col heel erg mee, de hellingen zijn regelmatig en het wordt nergens echt steil. Let er wel op dat je met deze afstand een uur à 1,5 uur aan het klimmen bent; verschiet dus niet al het kruid al in het eerste deel van je klim. Het eerste deel is namelijk erg vlak, pas later wordt het steiler.
In my opinion, the most beautiful and quiet side to climb the Tourmalet. Little shade in bright sunshine. Both in Campan and La Mongie options for drinking/eating. As on any Col above, it is colder and more windy but then you really realise you are back somewhere above 2000m and have gained an experience HC
Volgens mij de mooiste en rustigste kant om de Tourmalet te beklimmen. Weinig schaduw bij felle zon. Zowel in Campan als in La Mongie mogelijkheden om te drinken/eten. Zoals op iedere Col boven is het kouder en meer wind maar dan besef je pas echt dat je terug ergens boven de 2000m staat en een ervaring HC hebt opgedaan

A great experience. A few people on the road until Barèges, then almost all cyclists. The valley is a bit closed at the beginning, but the view is splendid on the last km.

The first few kilometers you will be spared, but then it's full steam ahead to the top. Be well prepared and keep in mind that the temperature differences can be large.
Een "monument" en de meest beklommen berg in de Tour. Indrukwekkend en zwaar! Je kunt heel wat superlatieven loslaten op de Tourmalet. Vooral op je bucketlist plaatsen als je deze nog niet hebt bedwongen. De eerste kilometers word je nog een beetje gespaard, maar daarna is het vol aan de bak tot de top. Wees goed voorbereid en hou er rekening mee dat de temperatuurverschillen groot kunnen zijn.
Much has been said and written about this one; you must have done it because of the history, because of the impressive landscape and because this is one of the higher passes in the region. Also ideal to combine with several other climbs and circuits. Especially in combination with another (HC) climb, this climb gets extra value, eg Luz-Ardiden or Hautacam. What I personally find hard on this side, are the long straight parts, especially in the part to La Mongie. The gradients are of course quite steep (also in combination with the distance), but doable. However, the climb offers little opportunity for recovery; after a few easy kilometers in the beginning, you never get below 7-8%. It's really a climb to plan well. It's best if you can pull through after La Mongie (or have some left over). If you descend this way, full speed! Few sharp turns, fairly wide and good road, so very clear. Lots of other traffic, so be careful. I once had a blowout here (probably a stone), just past La Mongie around the galleries.

Wat ik persoonlijk aan deze kant wel zwaar vind, zijn de lange rechte stukken, met name in het gedeelte tot La Mongie. Stijgingspercentages zijn natuurlijk best pittig (ook in combi met de afstand), maar te doen. Echter, de beklimming biedt weinig mogelijkheden voor herstel; na een paar rustige kilometers in het begin, kom je nooit meer onder de 7-8%. Het is echt een klim om goed in te delen. Het is het mooiste als je na La Mongie nog even door kan trekken (of over hebt). Als je deze kant afdaalt, full speed! Weinig scherpe bochten, redelijk brede en goede weg, dus zeer overzichtelijk. Wel veel ander verkeer, dus echt goed uitkijken. Ik had zelf hier ooit een klapband (waarschijnlijk een steentje), net voorbij La Mongie rond de gallerijen.
The Tourmalet is the very first high mountain pass I have ever climbed, I already had some climbing experience in the Flemish and Belgian Ardennes, but this was new and of course of a different order. Nevertheless, I managed to get up without any problems, a magnificent climb that became particularly tough from La Mongie onwards. A Dutchman that passed me in the last kilometers was already sitting on the terrace with a coffee in front of him when I arrived. When I told him that this was my first big col ever, he shook his head and said I was crazy to tackle an out-of-category col right away. However, he did think that I'd done very well despite that, and it ended up being a very pleasant chat with lots of interesting climbing tips.
De Tourmalet is de allereerste col in het hooggebergte ooit die ik beklommen heb, ik had al behoorlijk wat klimervaring in de Vlaamse en Belgische Ardennen, maar dit was nieuw en natuurlijk ook van een andere orde. Toch probleemloos naar boven gefietst, schitterende beklimming die vooral vanaf La Mongie heel zwaar wordt. Een Nederlander die mij in de laatste kilometers voorbijgereden was zat boven op het terras al met een koffietje voor zijn neus toen ik arriveerde. Toen ik hem vertelde dat het mijn eerste grote col ooit was schudde hij met zijn hoofd met de boodschap dat ik goed gek was om al direct een buiten categorie aan te pakken. Hij vond echter wel dat ik niettegenstaande dat het heel goed had gedaan, het werd nog een heel gezellige babbel met heel wat interessante klimtips.
The ascent of this legendary and most climbed Tourcol starts in the centre of the village of St.Marie de Campan at the statue of 1913 legend Eugène Christophe with his repaired fork triumphantly sticking up in the air!
The relatively flat first 4 km. through the open fields of the Vallé du Campan will be rewarded because afterwards the gradient until the top doesn't drop below 8％. The area in and between the half-open avalanche chutes in front of the summery empty ski village with its terribly ugly concrete high-rise La Mongie was murderous.
Top is windhole with souvenir shop/café and large silver cast iron statue of climbing cyclist.
Besides the well-known cycling information signs every kilometer, I even came across 2 donkeys and some imported llama's just before the summit!!!!

De beklimming van deze legendarische en meest beklommen Tourcol start in de dorpskern van St.Marie de Campan aan het beeld van 1913-legende Eugène Christophe met herstelde voorvork triomfantelijk in de lucht gestoken!
De relatief vlakke eerste 4 km. langs de open velden van de Valléé du Campan krijg je dubbel en dik terugbetaald want nadien zakt het stijgingspercentage tot de top niet meer onder de 8％. De zone in en tussen de halfopen lawine gaanderijen voor het zomers lege skidorp met aards lelijke betonnen hoogbouw La Mongie was moordend.
Top is windgat met souvenirshop/café en groot zilverkleurig gietijzer beeld van klimmende fietser.
Naast de gekende fietsinfobordjes elke kilometer kwam ik naast 2 ezeltjes zelfs enkele geïmporteerde lama's tegen vlak voor de top!!!!

Deze klassieker moet je zeker eens gedaan hebben, en waarom niet ineens in combinatie met de Aspin. Ik deed deze klim enkele jaren geleden, de dag voor de passage van de tour. Op elke beschikbare vierkante meter naast de weg stond een camper, en de sfeer zat er toen al goed in.
Los daarvan is het ook gewoon een moeie klim, zeker eens je boven het skistation bent.

Iconic mountain. I did the Tourmalet after the Aspin. Up to La Mongie quite doable, although it remains doable. From La Mongie everything just hurts. Keep your eyes on the ground and keep turning. That's how you get there. Enjoying the last few km's is not really an option anymore. But once you reach the top, the view is fantastic. Do bring a jacket for the descent. It can be chilly and misty, even on hot summer days. In the valley it was 28°c. At the top it was 13°c and foggy.
Iconische berg. Ik deed de Tourmalet na de Aspin. Tot aan La Mongie best doenbaar, al blijft het doenbaar. Vanaf La Mongie doet alles gewoon pijn. Blik op de grond gericht en blijven ronddraaien. Zo kom je er. Genieten is er die laatste km'sn iet echt meer bij. Maar eens je boven voet aan grond zet, is het uitzicht fantastisch. Wel een jasje meenemen voor de afdaling. Het kan er fris en mistig zijn, zelfs op warme zomerdagen. In de vallei was het 28°c. Boven was het 13°c en mistig.
This was the 4th mountain in the Marmotte Pyrenees. If you already have a lot of altimeters in your legs, this mountain is pretty tough. From the ski village it is still about 5 km climbing, there are no really steep parts (over 10%) but 8 or 9% is quite a challenge. It goes up nice and evenly. In terms of views, I found this climb a little less.
Dit was de 4e berg in de Marmotte Pyreneeën. Wanneer je al veel hoogtemeters in de benen hebt, is deze berg best pittig. Vanaf het skidorp is het nog een km of 5 klimmen, daar zitten geen echt steile stukken (van meer dan 10% in) maar 8 of 9 % is dan best een uitdaging. Het gaat wel mooi en gelijkmatig omhoog. Qua uitzichten vond ik deze beklimming wat minder.
Ridden today from Beaudean. Left in the fog and rode slowly but surely out of the clouds at the first hairpin, about 8 km before the top. The heat on your head really makes a difference. I had to use a smaller gear to keep on stomping until La Mongie. What a killer that last, secretly somewhat steeper part through Mongie to the top. Coffee and cake at the top as a reward. And then the descent back to Beaudean. Easy to do and apart from a few hairpin turns you can cycle on. Down within half an hour. In the fog.
Vandaag gereden vanuit Beaudean. Vertrok in de mist een reed langzaam maar zeker de wolken uit bij de eerste haarspeldbocht, zo’n 8 km voor de top. Dat maakt toch wel wat uit die hitte op je hoofd. Rustig door stampen, had ik maar een kleiner verzet, tot la Mongie. Wat een killer dat laatste stiekem toch wat steilere stuk door Mongie tot aan de top. Koffie met taart boven als beloning. En dan de afdaling terug naar Beaudean. Prima te doen en op een paar haarspeldbochten na kan je flink door fietsen. Binnen een half uur beneden. In de mist.

Mooie Alpenweiden en een fantastisch uitzicht van de omhoog slingerende weg. Maar de vraag is om je tijdens de lange stukken van de rond de 9 en 10 procent daar echt van kunt genieten.

On August 4 we drove up. Parked the car in Bagnères de Bigorre. I started with drizzle, but knew the sun was shining above the clouds (check webcam of Pic du Midi). From the first hairpin bend (km 9) all the way to the top the climb is steep and there is no opportunity to catch your breath. This makes the climb mentally tough, especially if you do it for the first time. From just before La Mongie until after it, it gets even steeper. It helped me that you can see the top from there. In the last 2 km before the summit (and also in the descent) there are usually photographers active so make sure your hair is nice and you can still smile!
Op 4 augustus naar boven gereden. Auto in Bagnères de Bigorre gezet. Ik begon met miezerregen, maar wist dat boven de wolken de zon scheen (check webcam van Pic du Midi). Het stuk vanaf de eerste haarspeldbocht (km 9) helemaal naar de top is het aan één stuk steil en is er geen gelegenheid om op adem te komen. Dat maakt de klim mentaal zwaar, zeker als je 'm voor het eerst doet. Vanaf net vóór La Mongie tot erna wordt het allemaal nog een stukkie steiler. Het hielp mij dat je vanaf daar de top ziet liggen. In de laatste 2 kilometer voor de top (en ook in de afdaling) zijn er meestal fotografen actief dus zorg dat je haar goed zit en nog kan glimlachen!
I am 13 years old and yesterday I climbed the tourmalet for the first time. I rode away from my dad with 8km to go and put him at 15 minutes. Did not stop once! From La Mongie it is really hard, especially the hairpin bends that you have to take on the inside are really tough. But once at the top it is great the view on the picture! I also rode the Hautacam, that was my best climb so far.
Ik ben 13 jaar en heb gisteren voor het eerst de tourmalet beklommen. Ik reedt met nog 8km voor de boeg weg bij mijn vader en heb hem op een kwartier gezet. Ben geen een keer gestopt! Vanaf La Mongie is het echt afzien vooral de haarspeldbochten die je in de binnenzijde moet nemen zijn echt zwaar. Maar eenmaal op de top is het geweldig het uitzicht op de foto! Ik heb ook de Hautacam nog gereden dat was mijn beste beklimming tot nu toe

Two brothers climbed the mighty mountain the Tourmalet today August 25, with beautiful weather and full of good courage. They managed to conquer the giant in one go without a break. When they arrived at the top they even looked fresh and were two very satisfied people, and rightly so because it is no small feat. The proud mother and stepfather follow them closely, because they have also done the same route. Of course, the success is also thanks to the good caretaker Wendy, class work!!!!.
Twee broers beklommen vandaag 25 augustus de machtige berg de Tourmalet,met prachtig weer en vol goede moed.Het lukte ze om in een keer zonder rustpauze de gigant te bedwingen.Bovengekomen zagen ze er zelfs nog fris uit en waren twee zeer tevreden mensen,en terecht want het is geen kleinigheidje.De trotse moeder en stiefvader volgen ze op de voet,want hebben dezelfde route ook afgelegd.Natuurlijk is het cucces ook te danken aan de goede verzorgster Wendy,klassewerk!!!!
I climbed the Tourmalet with my husband Joseph in 2005, at an age of 54 and 57 years. It was 14 August and we had already climbed many cols including the aspet, aspin, peyresourde soulor and Aubisque the Hourquet, Ares and some more of those delicious climbs. he Tourmalet was the toughest, I had to suffer, but arrived at the top, delicious that feeling, you're all the woman or man of course. delicious sport !!!!!
Heb de Tourmalet beklommen samen met mijn man Jozef in 2005.Op een leeftijd van 54 en 57 jaar.Het was 14 augustus en we hadden al veel cols beklommen o.a. De aspet,aspin,peyresourde soulor en Aubisque de Hourquet,Ares en nog wat meer van die heerlijke beklimmingen.D e Tourmalet vond ik wel het zwaarste,heb moeten afzien,maar boven gekomen,heerlijk dat gevoel,je bent helemaal het vrouwtje of mannetje natuurlijk.Heerlijke sport!!!!!
Today I did the Col du Tourmalet, starting from Bagnéres de Bigorre. Started off with beautiful weather and a good mood. But the further you get, the harder it gets. At La Mongie it becomes hard and the last four kilometers are equally hard. Yet you are suddenly at the top. Highly recommended! Good tarmac and the descent is very fast. I find the Tourmalet slightly harder than the Cormet de Roselend or Alpe d'Huez, because the steep work is at the end. For anyone who is going to try it: Bon courage!

Vandaag de Col du Tourmalet gedaan, vanaf Bagnéres de Bigorre. Met prachtig weer en goede zin gestart. Maar hoe verder je komt, hoe zwaarder het wordt. Bij La Mongie wordt het zwaar en de laatste vier kilometer blijven even zwaar. Toch sta je nog plotseling op de top. Een aanrader! Prima asfalt en de afdaling gaat héél snel. Ik vind de Tourmalet wel iets zwaarder dan de Cormet de Roselend of Alpe d'Huez, omdat het steile werk aan het eind ligt. Voor iedereen die het gaat proberen: Bon courage!

We did it in 2011 with our Citroen 2CV from 1976. Quite heavy, mainly in first gear slowly uphill. And don't use your brakes during the descent, so also in first gear downhill on the engine.

Wij hebben het in 2011 met onze citroen 2CV uit 1976 gedaan. Best wel heftig, voornamelijk in de eerste versnelling langzaam omhoog.en vooral niet je remmen gebruiken bij de afdaling, dus ook in de eerste versnelling op de motor afdalen .
Was regelmatig een leuke strijd tussen de fietsers en onze 2Cv

de col de tourmalet moet ge als fietser ook zeker beklommen hebben, staat ook in mijn top zes zelfs top drie, ik was ook verrast was al in de spaanse pyreneeen geweest en die vond ik helemaam niet mooi kaal en dor, maar de franse kant is heel groen zeer mooi kwa natuurschoon vond ik het zelfs mooier dan de alpen dus zeker naartoe gaan de klim zelf vanuit luz zeer mooi zwaar afwisselend laatste km steil, maar met de nodige training te doen dus den tourmalet is gewoon een topper in europa doen dus jef verdonck tht
