As a cycling experience and sporting achievement, this is the max. The wide route was built to get as many winter sports tourists as possible to their ski destination by car and even acted as a location for a car chase in the James Bond film "Spectre" (2015). The end point is therefore a summer empty asphalt parking lot, the size of several soccer fields, located at a café/restaurant complex in the middle of a glacial landscape dotted with cable cars and ski lifts. Stunning climb, gives no respite, for those who want to test themselves, to be done afterwards with a fair amount of training.

As a cycling experience and sporting achievement, this is the max. The wide route was built to get as many winter sports tourists as possible to their ski destination by car and even acted as a location for a car chase in the James Bond film "Spectre" (2015).
The end point is therefore a summer empty asphalt parking lot, the size of several soccer fields, located at a
café/restaurant complex in the middle of a glacial landscape dotted with cable cars and ski lifts.
The climb starts just after leaving Sölden, turn right and immediately after that, very steep, the first 4 hairpin bends follow until the pay station (even flat / bicycle free), a long relatively straight stretch takes you to the last 4.
Afterwards at about 2630 m there is a split to end point Rettenbachferner (see climbfinder) or you can turn left downhill to the entrance of the Rosi Mittermeier Tunnel (open since 1982 named after German ski champion).
This straight tunnel is 1.8 km. long bumpy asphalt two-lane road, reasonably lit (extra bike lights wouldn't hurt!!!) and bridges 146 altitude meters. This ensures that when cycling into Europe's highest road tunnel, you will see the daylight from the end in a small circle above you in the distance.
Tunnel exit is the highest point of the climb and with its 2829 m also highest paved road in the Alps.
Last hundreds of meters are downhill towards parking lots which was welcome after a long climb that continuously flirts with the 10% and more.

Very tough climbing challenge with spectacular final section and two altitude records where you hardly find any traffic in summer.
Warm clothes can come in handy even in summer!!!
