The ‘famous’ side maybe the other ascent but this side is the Fred Whitton Challenge option and is equally brutal.
The start in Seatoller is tight and steep and a real shock to the system - time to search for the granny gear! Once past the first left handed the wall is in front of you, woodland, heather and stone walls enclose the climb. But it opens up after this first really steep (25%) bit and even if it does ease off as it goes higher, it doesn’t get easier. The views further up are magnificent, and when you reach the top you can look back across the peaks and be blown away by the grandeur
It's so steep at the start that your legs start to ache, but then it flattens out and you can enjoy the beautiful landscape!
Climb from another world: on the same slope, I ventured both into the rainforest and to the top of an Alpine climb. The percentages soon become insane, it is hard work to get to the top. A gurgling mountain stream in the green accompanies you on this self-flagellation. Once you think you are at the top, after a more running section in the open fields, a final steep stretch to the summit follows where you can make a stop at the Sky Hi café. On the descent, you imagine yourself in a fairytale world among the mountains
Very nice, but also steep climb with the steepest part being 25%. Especially at the bottom it is raking. Towards the top it is a bit easier. When we were there, it rained on the descent and that's a good lookout!
