This is a very nice climb. Not very hard by Basque Country standards, but very irregular, and there are regularly sections of 12-15% for a few hundred meters. Not to be underestimated.
Above 500m, hardly any trees grow (probably not as a natural tree line, but as a result of logging), so you always have an open view. Because of the low hanging clouds I had the misfortune to see nothing at the top.
The descent on the other side is narrow and twisty, so make sure your brakes are in order.

Magnificent climb in the Basque Country in the region of Navarra and when you hear Navarro then the real insiders know that the climbs are super steep and usually linked to the perhaps the toughest stage race for amateurs in Spain last century which was the gateway to professional cycling because whoever shone here could count as a Spaniard on a professional contract.
Frederico Bahamontos the eagle of Toledo discovered Lucien Van Impe in this round and gave him a pro contract after Lucien won 5 of the 6 stages. A few weeks later Lucien would shine in the Tour de France.
But back to the climb which is along a very narrow track all the way up with one turn after another and luckily those turns are there because if it would go straight up you would be very disappointed. You never get into a good rhythm because of the constantly varying inclination percentages which are always high, except for one moment at kilometre 4. But the beautiful surroundings and far beautiful views make up for all the misery and a must for your bucket list.
