As a reasonably trained cyclist of 52 (71 kg), I did this climb on a hot day in full sun (30 degrees) with over 1800 altimeters in the legs already. Heavy and especially deceptive climb. The first 10 km consistently around 9-10 per cent with some brilliant hairpin turns at the start. Outliers to 16 per cent. The cheating lies in the indicated percentages after km 10. These seem not too bad but, with the exception of two relatively flat km 10 and 11, it is very uneven climbing with constantly short walls of 8-14 per cent combined with flat sections and the occasional short descent. Only from km 17 onwards is it idd a steady climb with average percentages around 5%. The view from the car park at the top of the through road is stunning (see photos's). The road surface on this climb is poor for large parts and dangerous on the descent. There are a number of tunnels, one of which is completely dark. Combined with the poor road surface, I rode through those on the descent with my buttocks squeezed together. Next time, I would definitely bring a front light for good visibility. Traffic is fairly quiet and the surroundings of the climb are stunning. Around km 16-17 you pass the typical holiday village of Bonne with shops and terraces. At several places along the road are points where you can fill your water bottle with ice-cold mountain water.
