Tring Hill is very often the last climb on rides that I do, whether on my own or in a group. As such, my legs are normally pretty tired by the time I get there. However, I'm here to talk about Tring Hill. It's actually a pretty good climb, on the scale of dead straight climbs at an almost constant gradient. It follows the line of the Akeman Street Roman road, but I doubt that the Romans dug the cutting that helps to even out the gradient, or built the embankment that evens out the gradient lower down. This large scale civil engineering must have been done later, when this road was improved as a national trunk road (the new A41 now bypasses it completely).
