Nice quiet road through the forest. This area is fairly touristy, but if you are lucky you can imagine yourself alone in the world for a while here.

One of the finest climbs I have done in Germany. The first part of this climb is a quiet road anyway , but from the Rennweg the road becomes completely car-free. Moreover, you have very nice views at the top here. Furthermore, almost perfect tarmac and a great training for long climbs; good to combine with Schmidt (from Nideggen) and Vossenack, but both don't measure up to this climb in terms of beauty/views and tranquillity!

On all counts, a delightful climb. The first section on the link road has excellent tarmac and meanders nicely up through beautiful scenery. As you leave the road and enter the small tarmac road it rises nicely for a while and after the bend you see a long straight road ahead. You know that the end of that road is also pretty much the end of the climb but then it's still hard work because the road goes up and down a lot with constantly changing percentages. Quite a runner but the scenery and the beautiful vistas make up for a lot. After the next bend is soon the top of the climb.

For me, this climb is a dream to ride, especially in spring or autumn. On a perfect, low-traffic road, the route first leads through the forest, after turning onto a cycle path at a car park, the route continues undulating for a few kilometres towards Großhau.

Last time I was there (last fall), the entire main road was repaved...German asphalt quality. From the parking lot you end up on a kind of Vennbahn of lesser quality, but quite doable.

Nice long climb, quite irregular, but nowhere really steep. At the start of the climb the going gets tough, but after a few hundred metres the going gets easier. The road surface on this first part is bad, with lots of holes and cracks. When the road bends to the left you turn right into a parking lot and at the end it turns into a car-free road. The tarmac here is much better, although there may be some remnants of felled trees on the road. The first part of this second part is still quite steep, then it goes step by step up to the top. If you continue to Grosshau it goes up and down until you reach the village.
