One of the best climbs! It is so even and rhythmic that it is much lighter work despite the hard gradient. I was a bit worried by the green wall when approaching from Arco but it really surprised me. The forest is really dense and the traffic is very light which makes this a really enjoyable ride.... read more

Challenging climb, almost all in the shade of the surrounding forest and therefore also suitable in summer. It gives you little chance to breathe (the last 500 m are practically flat) so you'd better be trained to tackle it.
I tackled it on the day the Giro d'Italia passed in 2023, so I don't know what the traffic conditions are normally.
If you're in the Lake Garda area it's a climb not to be missed.

Nice quiet roads to suffer on, great views, beautiful scenery with autumn leaves at the side of the road. It was a good test and I would do it again.

When you get to Bolognano and look up, you get a little scared: the vertical rock face looms up, hiding a road that climbs, hairpin bend after hairpin bend, up the mountain. Tough, it is tough. At least two kilometres are at 10% average and right from the start there are significant gradients. When, after seven kilometres, you finally find gradients around 7%, you thank heaven. The beautiful view of Lake Garda is hidden by the forest, which makes the climb ideal for summer. There are practically no cars. When you reach Monte Velo, climb further up to Passo Santa Barbara. On the other side, the Vallagarina opens up and you descend, like missiles, to Loppio and from there you can go to Nago and Riva del Garda on an enjoyable cycle path, although it is very popular with cycle tourists.

Climb that was included in the Giro 2023 route after years of absence.
Via the first of many hairpin bends, you climb out of the start village on perfectly wide asphalt, which then turns into a narrow lane with sporadic passing lanes along the side. Route winds up valley flank through shady forest that occasionally opens up to views of northern Lake Garda and the Sarca River flowing into it. The first part of the climb flirts regularly with the 10% and flattens out a little towards the open green plateau of the summit. This does not represent much but there is a water source and a refuge nearby for possible supplies.
Along the way there is no habitation, no catering establishments and hardly any car/motorbike traffic.
There are kilometre markers that add up from 0 (start of climb) to 13 (summit).

Tip: If you are staying on Lake Garda, there is a car-free cycle route from Torbole along the river to Arco from where you can easily reach your starting point.

Not so well known but nice quiet climb that I "enjoyed"!

Vrachtverkeer is verboden.

Challenging ascent already from the first few kilometres, then it climbs rather nimbly for a few kilometres and in the middle part until the end of the 7 k prepare to suffer! After that it becomes more pedalable until the MT. Velo. To reach the S.Barbara pass there are still 3 non-trivial km. A classic climb for trained cyclists! The landscape both uphill and downhill is not particularly attractive! Be careful at the end of the descent whether you return to Arco or towards Lake Garda the roads are very busy.

It's a tough middle section. Beautiful views of the valley and Lake Garda. Fine road surface, little traffic. HC rated, but I think that's a bit too high.

Het is een pittig middenstuk. Mooie uitzichten op het dal en Gardameer. Prima wegdek, weinig verkeer.

Start from Arco, where there is also signposting to Monte Velo. Wonderful climb, through reasonably sheltered roads, regularly offering very nice views over the northern part of Lake Garada up to the Monte Vélo point. This also takes you through some small tunnels. From the terminus Monte Velo, it is back down for a while before continuing to climb back up to Passo Bordala in Ronzo-Chienis. Note that in Ronzo-Chienis there are several roads leading to the new climbing section.

Nice climb with sometimes a nice view on the northern point of the Garda lake. The first 9km are quite tough but always doable. This climb is ideal to combine with Monte Bondone.
