5.0 by GiorgiThis is an automatic translation, the original language is: English. One of the most difficult climbs I tried, the first half is really steep and 4.5 Km long. I'm really light (55Kg), I climbed with a 34-36 and I still was between 60 and 70 rpm while seated. The hairpins don't let you recover, they are even steeper than the straights. The road is really cool, unfortunately I have ridden it in the end of september with a terrible weather. I was inside the clouds and once at the top I couldn't see further than 10 meters. The road is in cement but in good condition and it gives a good grip even when wet, there was some grime in the middle of the road tho (maybe in spring/summer is better).
The climb is permitted to cyclist from 9:00 to 15:00 (and from 19:00 to 20:00 if you sleep at the top), the descent if ALWAYS forbidden.
To descent legally you can take a (really expensive, 13.5€) cableway or walk down.
I will for sure do it again in the spring, so that I can see the fantastic views with a decent weather.
Must do as a challenge, not much of a sporting experience though as this is super steep and hard for anyone. Had a compact 34-32 and definitely needed easier gear. It's a very pretty place, forested and on the top, you are rewarded with beautiful views.
That's very difficult climb. It is very steep, to the point that is difficult let handlebar to reach the bidon and drink (i recommend to take water in backpack tank). Surface is concrete, but there are many loose and sharp stones. Majority of the road is in the shadow, but there are some open sun sections. There is a fountain at the start of the climb, when you can fill up your water supply.
Decent is forbidden (road is narrow and 18% for 4km), one need to take a cable car to return to Tarvisio, but it's ok, staff is helpful and you can take your precious bike inside the cabin. Make sure you hold it at all time, there are no belts etc inside.
