The longest non-dead climbing of Switzerland, if I'm not mistaken. To be honest, during the climb I mainly had clouds as a view, but I still enjoyed it. I suspect that the road can be busy, but I climbed this mountain in the evening and it was not so bad. At 21h at the top the sun finally broke through, that was really beautiful. Then I could throw myself into the beautiful (short) descent to Silvaplana. If you doubt between this and the Julier pass I would go for the Julier pass. But th... read more

Initially quite monotonous with the following kilometres it gains in charm and takes on an alpine character. This is a very long uphill ride and you need to be prepared.

The road is very busy, especially on weekdays, because it is the main route between Chur and St. Moritz. It is therefore also well developed. However, the passages through the village are narrow and a long right-hand bend above Sur is very dangerous for cyclists. The passage afterwards to Lake Marmorera is also very narrow and winding. From Tiefencastel to Cunter there is a side road with little traffic, but it adds 200 metres in altitude and is quite steep at up to 11% (https://climbfinder.com/de/anstiege/mon-tiefencastel). Up to Bivio, the landscape is rather unspectacular, from Bivio onwards it is very alpine and secluded. The descent to Silvaplana is steep, but with few bends and well-maintained, it is ideal for setting speed records (mine: 89 km/h).

From Tiefencastel, it's quite a long way. Not in terms of kilometres, but more in terms of landscape. Apart from a reservoir (where you can drink delicious coffee with the nicest people, by the way) not much happens. We drove on a fairly busy day. Especially the motorbikes were allowed out again. The reward, however, is in the tail. The last few kilometres are wide winding and the summit gives great views. Put it in pencil on your list.

A very long, endless climb, especially starting from Thusis as I did. But the summit is beautiful, lunar atmosphere and very few people, even if it was the middle of summer.

Cheers

Cheers

If you doubt between this and the Julier pass I would go for the Julier pass. But the Julier pass is also beautiful.

Tip: look for the 'Mon from Tiefencastel' if you want to avoid the main road in the beginning of the climb with a nice alternative road.
