One of the most overrated climbs I have done over the years. Absolutely forgettable in all respects. Panorama that only in very few places deserves, arrival at the shrine of dubious taste and a bit' "left there". In short, big disappointment. Technically speaking, the first km leaves you breathless but once you pass, it becomes rideable and more enjoyable.

Panorama che solo in pochissimi punti merita, arrivo al santuario di dubbio gusto e un po' "lasciato li". Insomma, grande delusione. Tecnicamente parlando, il primo km lascia poco fiato ma una volta passato, diventa pedalabile e più godibile.

If technical information is needed, prepare some energy supplies to tackle the first part where the gradients hardly drop below 9% and at Mulini del Perlo they even touch 14/15% for about 200 and more meters. If tackled perhaps after having done other climbs, or tackled after having done several kilometers before, this first part of the climb can be rough! The arrival, however, at the little church square always and absolutely repays any physical and mental effort expended. Magica, mistica e iconica. La salita del Ghisallo è un monumento all’interno di una Monumento. Difficilmente c’è qualcosa di non detto su questo luogo o su quello che vuol dire o come affrontare questa salita. Se servissero informazioni tecniche, preparate qualche scorta di energia per affrontare la prima parte dove le pendenze difficilmente scendono sotto il 9% ed in località Mulini del Perlo toccano anche il 14/15% per circa 200 e passa metri. Se affrontata magari dopo aver fatto altre salite, o affrontata dopo aver fatto diversi chilometri prima, questa prima parte di salita può risultare scorbutica! L’arrivo però al piazzale della chiesetta ripaga sempre ed assolutamente ogni sforzo fisico e mentale impiegato. Non perdetevi un giretto dentro la chiesetta, solo il contenuto all’interno vale la pena di affrontare il Ghisallo!

Beautiful and (for me) tough climb. Only the second climb in my 'cycling career' after riding mostly flat in the Netherlands. Then it's pretty tough, but the arrival at the monument and the chapel make up for it. The descent afterwards is top notch with nice wide roads.
Mooie en (voor mij) pittige beklimming. Pas de tweede klim in mijn ‘wielerloopbaan’ na vooral vlak in Nederland te rijden. Dan is het behoorlijk aanpoten, maar de aankomst bij het monument en de kapel maken het goed. De afdaling daarna is top met mooie ruime wegen.

The climb home. If you can avoid doing it on Sundays it is better, at the weekend it is busy. The chapel at the top is unique, a must for every cyclist!

Mythical climb that ends at the church and the cyclists' museum. At the beginning it is steep and requires a lot of effort. Near the end there is a small descent (with very good views of the lake) and again the steep (not too steep) slopes start again until the end of the pass.

Typical fake news climb. Profile says 6％ , but it is hintered by descent in the second part of the climb. In fact there are more than 4km with 10％+. The surface is perfect and traffic is small. You can meet a lot of cyclist on the top. It is hard to warmup properly as there is barely non flat in Bellagio. I started climbing right of the bat from cyclist shop.
As a cyclist this a must do clime, more a pilgrimage than a bike ride. I have ridden this countless times and is always on the agenda when I'm in the area.
6/8/2024. Ascent done several times, but this time I added a diversion, climbing 2/3 of the way up to San Primo/Piano rancio, doing what is called the Super Ghisallo. Basically, you climb up past the Ghisallo altitude and then descend back down to the little church. The climb is quite tough and making this diversions increases fatigue, but in addition to taking a less travelled road, you pass the famous sasso Lentina, the largest erratic stone in Lombardy. PS: if you go up by bike, you get a discount at the Ghisallo museum. PS2: recommended to have a look at the "Brevetto del Ghisallo" website with different possibilities and routes.
6/8/2024. Salita fatta diverse volte, ma questa volta ho aggiunto una deviazione, salendo a 2/3 delal salita per San Primo/Piano rancio, facendo quello che viene definito il Super Ghisallo. Praticamente si sale oltre la quota del Ghisallo e poi si ridiscende verso la chiesetta. La salita è abbastanza dura e facendo questa deviazione aumenta la fatica ma oltre che percorrere una strada meno praticata, si passa davanti al famoso sasso Lentina, la pietra erratica più grande della Lombardia. PS: se salite in bici, avrete lo sconto al museo del Ghisallo. PS2: consigliato dare un occhio al sito "Brevetto del Ghisallo" con diverse possibilità e percorsi.
A legendary climb in cycling, often part of the Giro di Lombardia. It allows a view from the top of Bellagio. We recommend the diversions called "SuperGhisallo" which arrives at Piano del Rancio" with newly resurfaced asphalt and absolutely zero traffic. It is not indicated on the climbfinder map. At the little church that I have put in the photo you follow the road to the right (straight ahead for those going up while the main one turns left)

Consigliatissima la deviazione chiamata "SuperGhisallo" che arriva al Piano del Rancio" con asfalto appena rifatto e assolutamente zero traffico. Non è indicata sulla mappa di climbfinder. Alla chiesetta che ho messo nella foto si segue la strada a destra (dritta per chi sale mentre la principale volta a sinistra)
Tough climb to the pilgrimage site for every cyclist. By the way, the figures are very misleading; Garmin has actually cut the climb into 2 parts, with the first and last parts then both being against 10％ average, which already sounds more vicious! There is now also a museum at the summit to display all the donated items that no longer fit in the chapel; the staff watch your bike and the entrance fee is reasonable. The museum closes at 5.30pm, so keep that in mind in terms of time planning. Also, don't worry about having to awkwardly carry your cycling shoes through the museum; you can borrow Crocs for free!
Pittige klim naar het bedevaartsoord voor elke wielrenner. Overigens zijn de cijfers heel misleidend; Garmin heeft de klim in feite in 2 onderdelen geknipt, waarbij het eerste en laatse deel dan allebei tegen de 10％ gemiddeld zijn, dat klinkt al venijniger! Op de top is nu ook een museum om alle gedoneerde spullen te kunnen tonen die niet meer in de kapel pasten, ,zoals roze truien van Tom Dumoulin en Erik Breuking, en de fiets waarmee Fabio Casartelli dodelijk verongelukt is; het personeel let op je fiets en de toegangsprijs is schappelijk. Het museum sluit om 17.30 uur, dus hou daar rekening mee qua tijdsplanning. Ook hoef je niet bang te zijn dat je onhandig met je fietsschoenen door het museum moet; je mag gratis Crocs lenen!
A climb that I do several times throughout the year and every time the first few kilometres are indigestible! Then it becomes a little less terrible with the falsopiano, which gives you some breathing space, but don't be fooled, the finish dries out the legs, especially the final straight!
Salita che faccio più volte nell'arco dell'anno e tutte le volte i primi km sono indigesti! Poi diventa un po' meno terribile col falsopiano che da un po' di respiro, ma non fatevi ingannare, il finale secca le gambe, soprattutto il drittone finale!
The first part is not very difficult, with it being easy to find a good pace. Though it is just long enough for you to start feeling the legs hurting a bit. The little downhill is nice and gives you some time to relax. But once you start climbing again, oh so close to the end, and you up the pace since you are so close to the end, all the fatigue catches up with you, on the steepest section of the climb. At the top of course, the chapel dedicated to cycling is absolutely gorgeous.
I climbed Ghisallo several times years ago, in my opinion the climb should be done for the history that surrounds it and for the unique landscape, not for the difficulty, it is within the reach of many, and how can we not mention the arrival at the little church...sacredness of cycling

With rainbow jerseys of several former world champions such as Hennie Kuiper, a yellow jersey of Bernard Hinault. And bikes of Gino Bartali from 1949 and Franceso Moser from 1984 when he improved the world hour record. Truly unique this church. Traffic during rush hour and at weekends. You always have to bear in mind that to reach it you have to take the roads from Lecco or Como, which are narrow and very busy.

On the way to the Muro of course we took this climb with us. After a few km of climbing, all hell broke loose, a cloudburst! I stopped (yes...) and quickly put on my raincoat. Then it looked more like I was riding up a waterfall. Of course, this gave a special dimension to the climbing experience, but I cannot tell you anything about its possible beauty. Apart from the rain, I did not find it very special.
Op weg naar de Muro natuurlijk deze klim meegenomen. Na een paar km klimmen brak de hel echte los, een wolkbreuk! Stoppen (jaja...) en snel een regenjack aan. Vervolgens leek het er meer op alsof ik tegen een waterval omhoog reed. Natuurlijk gaf dit een bijzonder dimensie aan de klimervaring, maar ik kan je niets vertellen over de eventuele schoonheid. Ik vond het naast de regen weinig bijzonder.

A treat for cycling fans because of the reward at the top. The climb is tough, especially at the beginning, but not too long and therefore easy to do. In such surroundings, it is nice cycling anyway. The chapel is great.
Een feestje voor wielerliefhebbers door de beloning op de top. De klim is pittig, zeker in het begin, maar niet te lang en dus goed te doen. In zo’n omgeving is het sowieso fijn fietsen. De kapel is geweldig.
Pilgrimage climb for the cycling fan. Not so much because of the climb, but of course because of the church full of cycling memorabilia on top. The climb consists of 2 parts, with in between a short descent and a fairly flat section.
Bedevaartsklim voor de wielerliefhebber. Niet zozeer vanwege de klim, maar natuurlijk vanwege het kerkje vol wielermemorabilia bovenop. De klim bestaat uit 2 delen, met tussendoor een korte afdaling en redelijk vlak stuk.
Beautiful climb which is quite tough the first few kilometers, but never gets above 15％. Very doable all in all. Beautiful views and during my trip (10:00 on a Tuesday in August) fairly quiet traffic. The road between Lecco and Bellagio is very narrow and around Onno also with tunnels. You can cycle there but it was a bit too dangerous for me, something to take into account in your tour.
Prachtige klim die de eerste kilometers best zwaar is, maar nooit boven de 15％ komt. Goed te doen al met al. Prachtige uitzichten en tijdens mijn rit (10:00 op een dinsdag in augustus ) vrij rustig qua verkeer. De weg tussen Lecco en Bellagio is erg smal en rond Onno ook met tunnels. Je mag er wel fietsen maar was mij iets te gevaarlijk, iets om rekening mee te houden in je rondje.

Col de Ghisallo From Como city via Asso and a nice slow climb with my old 1972 bianchi and luggage from the Netherlands to the bicycle shrine church and then visited the Cycling Museum. Old bianchis from Fausto etc. Very worthwhile!

Col de Ghisallo Vanuit Como stad via Asso genomen en mooi langzaam in ％ oplopend met mijn oude bianchi 1972 met bepakking vanuit Nederland naar fietsheligdom kerkje en daarna Cycling museum bezocht. Oude bianchis van oa Fausto etc. Zeer de moeite waard !
Afdaling via Onno langs comomeer naar Lecco Bergamo.
