Nice discovery via Climbfinder.nl and it's not the first one! Nice climb with heavy final kilometers. The last 2,5 to 3 km, the percentage does not drop below 11 to 14%. There is no recovery moment. At the top, you have a beautiful view of the region. The whole region is a discovery for me. I descended to Salzburg-Aigen. The steep last km's you have along each side. I must say the total climb is probably from Salzburg-Aigen much nicer and a narrower path. Slightly less traffic. A... read more

This really is the pass to take when you're staying in the magnificent city of Salzburg and are a fan of climbing as a cyclist. You can set off from the historic center or a little further into the city's suburbs. Before turning off onto Gaisbergstrasse, the traffic can be quite heavy, but there's a good cycle path in places to make it more comfortable. In absolute terms, this climb wouldn't be difficult if it weren't for the last 2.5 km at an average of 12%, which are really tough.

The Salzburg classic, great road and not too steep until the end

Would highly recommend this climb, it's tough but just on the right side of too tough. Huts selling drink about 75% of the way up and then also at the top. Can get the bus back down if you don't want to descend. Yes traffic can be high, lots of narrow points and buses can push the boundaries of safe overtakes but if you time it right then it's great, they do carfree days throughout the year. The surface is also good and smooth.

Nice climb almost directly from Salzburg. The road is good and wide, but there is a lot of (car) traffic going up, especially if you do this 'afternoon after work. Last three km are tough, with the added challenge that it starts with a long, straight, steep section. So you can see it gets tough (the steepest is still around the bend, by the way). At the top is a tap for water, handy if you get to the top thirsty. Afterwards, you can enjoy a nice view of the city and beyond.

Leuke klim vrijwel direct vanuit Salzburg.

The first part is a nice climb up to Zistelalm, then it is toil and sweat to reach the top. Fortunately, as a reward, you can take a terrace at the top and enjoy the view.
Nice to combine with the Heuberg.

I descended to Salzburg-Aigen. The steep last km's you have along each side. I must say the total climb is probably from Salzburg-Aigen much nicer and a narrower path. Slightly less traffic. And still typical Austrian top road surface.

Iets minder verkeer. En nog altijd typisch Oostenrijks top wegdek.
