An ascent with two sections, of the same length, with different characteristics. The first part is on a road with greater than average gradients overall, fairly sheltered from the wind, moderately busy but with a wide roadway and asphalt in good condition.
When we arrive more or less at the point where there is a slight descent, the second part begins, characterised by gentle, even gradients.
The carriageway becomes narrower after a while and the road surface is less even. There is no shortage of wind here and in the most exposed hairpin bends it can be annoying.
I last rode this route in August 2025 and had some problems with insects, which were really annoying.
A long climb but with uncommitted losses, the road is well paved and the roadway is wide. There is a strong headwind in the final section. I rode this climb in May and did not encounter any cyclists.
I ride this climb habitually as a less than amateur cyclist, with few annual outings. Not steep but long and with stretches that present a minimum of difficulty, with a gradient of 9% for about a kilometre just after the junction for Campoli Appennino a third of the way up... A scenic road, very beautiful, trafficked by motorbikes that often ride along it at high speeds. It is a natural training ground for cyclists, a natural gateway to the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. At the end of the 29km, you arrive in a stupendous forest and then begin the descent to Opi, from there, for those with legs, you can continue to Passo Godi and Scanno, adding kilometres and elevation gain. I recommend it to everyone because it is rideable but also a good test for those who live the bike without ambition but who seek personal satisfaction.
