The first 3 km feel runnable. Ideal for warming up. After these first few kilometres, it gets a lot spicier. The idea of these percentages continuing like this might be a bit daunting. However, after a few kilometres it becomes a lot less steep / tough again.

Swinging between the olive trees that provide shade, you get the occasional nice open view. The last kilometres after the Y junction where you have to turn left become a lot steeper...but as a reward, the views on these last kilometres are a lot nicer. You ride on the crest of the mountain for the last few kilometres. Both left and right you have the precipice next to the roadway. This last stretch makes the climb more than worthwhile if you are in the area! Climb on to the end of the road and don't stop at the "El Yelmo" sign. The view at the very top is breathtaking.

On the entire climb, on a weekday, I encountered no cyclists and 1 car.

The road surface is, until the last few kilometres satisfactory. Occasionally some gravel in the bends. It is not the descent to take full risk. An alternative to still have a nice descent is after you have descended the two highest kilometres turn left at the Y junction (instead of right) Then you descend via La Cumbre. The first kilometre after the Y junction is a disaster in terms of road surface. After getting through this hellish kilometre you come around a wide well-maintained lane, with no traffic, where you can go full 😉.

I started my ride in Tranco towards El Yelmo. Cycling along the water towards El Yelmo was also a must in terms of views.
