Also from this side the climb to the Teide is very beautiful and very different from the west side from Los Gigantes. From Granadilla on, the road gets more winding and you get to see more of the trees. This remains so after Vilaflor all the way to the top of the crater rim. Then you descend into the Teide National Park and the scenery changes completely. All you see are rocks, lava rocks and of course the volcano Teide. Good road surface everywhere. A magnificent but terribly long climb! Beware of hunger pangs. Once in the caldera (the ancient crater in which Teide is located), traffic increases dramatically and there is a fair amount of tourism.

In the winter bring some clothing against the cold at the top and for the descent.

Like all climbs in Tenerife, I have experienced that it is very safe to ride as a cyclist. You have more the wind as an enemy than any motorized vehicle, even on busy roundabouts the cyclist is safe.
