Colma di Sormano from Nesso

Very smooth and well shaded climb, ideal especially on hot days. Watch out for the Pian del Tivano: it gives the impression that the climb is now over, but there is still the final short climb left.

I will return on a good day! The climb is very smooth except for the last 3km. After 1.5km downhill there are the last 1.5 at 9％! Sensational asphalt, unfortunately I couldn't see the view. A climb that allows you to push without going too hard. The only pity is the absence of drinking fountains.

Good challenge in a beautiful part of Italy. The first 2/3 are quite punchy before levelling off on the piano and giving a kick at the end. Generally very quiet. When descending, do watch out for the typical Italian road surface.

Valuable climb of the so-called Larian triangle. In the first few sections you have a view of the lake, which you certainly appreciated before the start of the climb. For those arriving on the Como side, I suggest stopping to see the Orrido di Nesso, which is located before the start of this climb. Not far away. Once the lake view has ended, it is often in the shade during the long wooded stretches, so it remains pleasant even in summer. When you reach the Tivano plateau where it flattens out there is often windy (Tivano together with Breva are the names of the local winds depending on where they blow from) and added to the altitude of around 1000m it can happen that you may have to cover yourself even before the last stretch that reaches the Colma, a stage for cyclists and motorcyclists. The hardest stretches are found near the Zelbio village. Worthy of note is the bridge from which Remco Evenepoel fell during the descent in the opposite direction in the Tour of Lombardy, which often sees these roads as protagonists. It does not have the charm of the better-known Ghisallo but is worth including in a loop tour.

11/10/2024. Nice climb; the start is quite rideable, but once you reach Zelbio the average gradient increases. After the flat part we tackle the last few kilometres to arrive at Colma, which will require extra effort, given the gradient but above all because of the kilometres already done. Climbing, after the start of Nesso, at km 6.5 you pass the bridge where Remco had crashed in Lombardy, risking his life. Shortly before we come to a grotto/cappellina of the Madonna: a prayer for the risks involved in cycling is a necessary stop

A climb worth recommending. Not too steep, but difficult at times. But the views along the way and at the top are a must see. Little car traffic, but I was riding during the week. The condition of the asphalt is rather average, narrow in places and a lot of potholes and cracks, you have to descend carefully.

Good climb. You have to know how to manage, especially the last few kilometres, but at the top there is a beautiful landscape. Possibility of refreshments at the end.

A great climb overlooking Lake Como, offering pleasant views as you climb, it requires good training. In the first few kilometres you take a breather at the hairpin bends, but before and after the piani del tivano there are very hard sections that cut your legs, you have to manage well! Must do.

Together with Ghisallo, one of the most beautiful climbs in the Larian Traingolo.
Beautiful views and an excellent road, frequented only at weekends.
The steepest slopes are found in the crossing of the village of Zelbio and in the last stretch to the Colma di Sormano.

I found this quite a tough climb after 120 kilometres of cycling. There are steep bits in it that are quite nerve-wracking. At 13 kilometres, the climb is quite long for the region. I didn't find it a busy climb and in the hairpin bends in the first part you have a mighty view of Lake Como. Then at the top of the climb you have a great view of the already on the other side.
I found this really quite an okay climb. If you want to stomp around for between half an hour and an hour, this is also a great climb to have a good time.

The most beautiful climb of the Lake Como branch! Quite long, with a couple of kilometres at 80 per cent to recover. Be careful not to overdo it! The last few km are tough and you go into reserve with your strength! Beautiful views of Lake Como.

In 2017 I did this climb with no previous experience and it was not smart. The climb is great and less steep than the climb from Bellagio but it is very long. From here on to the famous cycling museum on the Ghisallo is easy. Visiting this place is a must for every cycling fan.
