The climbing doesn't start until a fair way into the full length that is shown here, but then you get some varied and challenging gradients, and the views are pretty good. It's a beautiful part of the Chilterns, and the hedges can block the view when in leaf, but in winter it's better, and there are some stretches with good views in all seasons. I like the Chequers Lane climb, despite the shockingly bad road surface in the lower half. It's a beautiful part of the Chilterns, and the hedges can block the view when in leaf, but in winter it's better, and there are some stretches with good views in all seasons. This one is a boneshaker in descent, so don't come down it if possible. Whether Chequers Lane should be chosen in preference to other climbs out of Fingest is a moot point. It's definitely more interesting than Fingest Lane up to Bolter End. As a climb it's better than the Oxford Road climb to Ibstone, but that road has much more to offer as a route. However there is a linking route from Chequers Lane through to Radnage which is well worth exploring, and includes the Bigmore Lane climb through some wonderful woodland. On its own, I think Chequers Lane is worthy of adding to your list, and ticking off, but the poor surface may put you off returning. Go before full summer foliage if possible.
A pretty boring climb, with high hedges and only the occasional glimpse of the surroundings. Most of it is false flat except for the two ramps towards the end. Also the road is pretty gravelly, with some large flint nodules to avoid too. A climb to get wherever you are going, but not much more.
