Ascent tackled starting from Roisan. The road is a classic mountain road: narrow but well surfaced, in excellent condition. I travelled it during the week and green maintenance work was in progress along the route, but without any particular inconvenience.
The first part passes through several small villages, each with its own fountain where you can refresh yourself and fill your water bottles. Once past Doues, the climb plunges into the forest, offering cool and shady stretches, only to open up onto the alpine pastures in the final kilometres.
The altimetry can be misleading: the climb is not particularly regular but follows the natural profile of the mountain, with continuous changes of pace. Short ramps at 10% alternate with more pedalable stretches, creating a varied and varied course.
The views are magnificent, especially at the top. A climb that repays all effort with its natural beauty.

Beautifully long not to be underestimated route winds its way up through countless small villages with sometimes only a few houses and the occasional small church. Views of the vast Aosta Valley and the snow-capped peaks of the Gran Paradiso National Park to the south are clearly discernible.
After the last village of Chatellair, you cycle the final kilometres through hairpin bends in an uninhabited world between coniferous forest and alpine meadows.
At the summit, where the tarmac stops, there is nothing apart from a car park for hikers entering the high mountains from here.
As the weather can change quickly in the mountains, I unfortunately found myself in dense cloud cover at 2000m.
Fortunately, I had already feasted my eyes on the way, there are the pictures's on Climbfinder and there is still Google Earth to show me what I should have seen.

Practical:
Several water sources, good road surface, no traffic.

Absolutely recommended this long not to be underestimated nature climb!!!

Beautiful climb and a serious calf bite. Cycled from Valpelline to Doues and picked up after the route. Straight from Valpelline this means full in the anchors and solid climbing. After getting on the route, you will have to keep pressure on the pedals. Garmin shows a remaining gradient of 8% on this stretch of over 10km. So Climbfinder's illustration is a little too enthusiastic. Also, Garmin does show percentages of 11 and 12% several times and that was also felt. Last stretch to 11% is up to about 500 metres before parking (also end), so the climb keeps you sweet until the end. Apart from these technical points, a beautiful climb. Beautiful views, generally good road surface (also for descending), coniferous forest and open sections with views and lovely hairpin turns. Relatively little traffic. The climb ends at the car park overlooking the Grand Combin. For mountain bikers, you can cycle even further, but I didn't venture there with the road bike.

Truly a fantastic magnificent climb and highly recommended for anyone staying near the Aosta Valley!!!
Once you drive out of town, it is a fairly quiet road that climbs steadily. After the first 8 kilometres, it becomes extremely quiet and you encounter very little other traffic. The climb then gets a bit trickier, but nowhere really very tough. Meanwhile, there are constantly beautiful views of the mountains around you. Not only do you cycle towards the Grand Combin, you can also spot the Matterhorn along the way (if you pay attention) and you have views of the Gran Paradiso towards the south. Despite being a deserted road, the road surface is good.

Should you still have energy left after the climb, you can (partly) slide down another route to Valpelline and from there add the climbs to Ollomont (another 650 extra altimeters) and/or Lago di Place Moulin (another 1050 extra altimeters).
