A truly beautiful and peaceful climb. Completely car-free from Hinterlauenbach onward, and even before that, traffic is fairly light. Very leisurely at the start until it begins to climb for the first time past Zwickgabel (7 to 8 percent). From Hinterlauenbach to the B500, the gradient never drops below 6 percent but rarely exceeds 8 percent. The kilometer on the B500 is less pleasant due to the traffic—cars and motorcycles traveling at nearly 100 km/h aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. After Mummelsee, the climb toward Hornisgrinde really gets going—starting at about 12 percent at the bottom, with gradients rarely dropping below 7 percent, and a few short stretches of double-digit gradients further up. All in all, a beautiful, long climb.
The first half I climbed on the gravel path, which is a very quiet, wooded path that is fine to do with a gravel bike. The second half I climbed on the asphalt, and although it got a bit steeper it was still fine. The asphalt is good, there wasn't too much traffic.
The route is on a narrow forest road with a good surface. Most of the time, especially at the top, it's a very quiet cycle path.
The gradients are moderate and the ascent easy.
This route allows you to discover the other side of the mountain, but offers little sporting interest compared to the routes on the western side.
