A pass to do in Croatia, it's quite irregular with sometimes high percentages, the first part on a busy road but the 2nd part is nicer on a small road.
Amazing climb close to Rijeka and Opatija. In contrary to the white rocks dominating other parts of the Croatian seacoast, this side of the Istrian Peninsula is covered with dense green forests due to the frequent rains.
The climb starts in Icici and in the first few kilometres the road is twisting between holiday homes built on the steep hillside. At Veprinac (465m) you have turn to the left and soon you will reach the Ucka National Park. At the Poklon Pass (925m) you will find some restaurants and the national park's visitor center. Approximately a kilometre after Poklon you have to turn left again and take the single lane closed road leading up to the summit.
The road is fully asphalted, the traffic is moderate and the last 7 kilometres is closed for private motorized vehicles. The quality of the road surface is not 100% perfect but still quite good.
On the summit you will find a TV tower, an air defense radar station and a lookout tower with a small souvenir shop inside. From the lookout tower (1400m) you can enjoy a 360 degree view of three countries: Croatia, Italy and Slovenia.
Climbed it from Cres by ferry, then along the water towards Rijeka and up this climb.
However, it is the variant that goes further and does not climb to Vojak (which is a dead end).
More traffic in the beginning with the hairpin bends where many holiday houses overlook the Kvarner bay, as soon as you enter the forest it becomes much quieter (and cooler). Good road surface and over the top a very pleasant descent towards Vranja. The road there is quieter because most tourists drive along the bay, but the view is of course better along the bay.
