Here, I'm rekindling childhood memories. It's a really pleasant little climb, now delicately "made up" with frost and mist... The scenery is elegant. Be careful, the 1600 metres between 13 and 15% are really no laughing matter. They are dry and demanding. The road is perfectly passable. It's a little black ribbon with no particular difficulty. I really enjoyed this ride. Definitely worth doing.
It's my first climb in the Morvan Natural Park, and I'm not disappointed!
The road twists and turns gently between the fields. The terrain is gentle too, not quite like the cold which stings a bit... But which also gradually reveals a most delicate icy landscape. The surface is fine, and the ride is good as far as Les Serteaux. The landscape deepens a little more, and after the hamlet, we enter the hard part of the climb. A hairpin bend takes us onto a very small road, a little rougher but still very easy to ride. As far as the market town of Uchon, we'll eat up around 2 kilometres alternating between good sections around 13 and 14% and a few false flats for welcome recoveries.
At the end of the small road, we take a stretch of the départementale to reach the market town, a few cars, three times nothing.
Uchon was misty that day. Some old stones rise out of the surrounding mist, among the heritage and the mysterious rocks.
From the town centre, the road levels out, and another kilometre of gentle slope through the conifers leads to the Col de la Croix de Messire Jean, where the Signal d'Uchon is planted. As you approach the southern slope and the pass, the sky finally reveals itself, encouraging you on the last few metres of this rather demanding ascent.
But the discovery along the way of trees and groves with a thousand stories, dressed in their frosted lace, is well worth the effort.
I'm sure they'll be just as beautiful in spring, summer and autumn...
A must-do in any season, without hesitation.
