Very nice climb, with almost no traffic (weekday in August). There is a long tunnel just before reaching the top, but as there are very few cars, not really an issue.

The middle of this pass deserves more stars than 3 with beautiful views, low traffic (at 07:00 on weekdays), picturesque villages and old wooden mountain huts. But both the beginning and the end are downright ugly and saturated with tunnels, galleries and a hideous reservoir. The last tunnel/gallery before the pass height is very long (2km) and there seems to be no end in sight. They are still working on it and the noise of vehicles is deafening.

On the descent, it is quite special to immediately notice that you are entering the Italian part of Switzerland: different vegetation, more dilapidated buildings, warmer, busier.

July 2023 with full camping luggage. Scenic climb with no particularly difficult sections. Some tunnels, so lighting is quite useful!
Shortly before reaching the pass, a rather long gallery was worked on until recently or is still being worked on. It is already passable, is quite well lit, but quite noisy when motorbikes pass through. Unfortunately, the view of the reservoir is missing due to the gallery.
Traffic is very relaxed!

As I cycled most of my second week in Switzerland in rainy conditions, the Lukmanier was no exception. Nice, but not exceptional, quite friendly grades - except the steep section after the short descend from Disentis - and some, but not many, nice views in the middle section. This climb can easily be combined with the Oberalp if you go back to Disentis: up to Dini, you can cruise to where the real fun of the Oberalp climb starts.

Ideal varied warm up climb with no extremes in beautiful natural scenery.
Was first climb of my hiking & cycling holiday 2019.
Starts in a German speaking canton and therefore also indicated on road signs as Lukmanier pass.

Beautiful cycling region with lots of climbing possibilities.
Had a week of Sedrun (on the Oberalppass) and Ulrichen (at the foot of the Nufenen) as a base.

Ideale gevarieerde opwarmklim zonder extremen in mooi natuurdecor.
