A nice alternative to climbing via the railway crossing. Here you turn right earlier where you leave the built-up area and get nice views over the Geul valley. After the viaduct over the railway a slight descent and then turn right (you pass an old lime kiln) and climb steeply up to the small monument to US Sergeant Robert S. Haws, who died here. Turn right here where the road levels off sharply (although it continues to rise). Further on, there are lovely views after which you follow the road to the end.
Een mooi alternatief voor de klim via de spoorwegovergang. Hier ga je eerder rechtsaf waarbij je de bebouwde kom verlaat en mooi uitzicht over het Geuldal krijgt. Na het viaduct over het spoor een lichte afdaling en daarna gaat het rechtsaf (je passeert een oude kalkoven) flink steil omhoog tot aan het monumentje voor de hier gesneuvelde Amerikaanse Sergeant Robert S. Haws. Hier rechtsaf waarbij de weg sterk afvlakt (al blijft deze wel stijgen). Verderop prachtig uitzicht waarna je de weg vervolgt tot het eind.
