Done on Thursday 4 August 2022 after the climb to Les Granges just next door, in the morning it's in the shade for a large part of the ascent, the gradients are regular but despite everything it's difficult.
The condition of the road varies a lot, from very good to bad to average, so you have to be careful on the descent.
Contrary to Niels1987, I fixed myself to the route indicated on the site and not taken Planbois, thus no part not tarred like on its photographs, by cons by Sauget the final is gravelled.
It is possible to make a loop by going back down through Montchavin les Coches and join the valley at Landry.
Or if you are tempted and if it is in activity this day, take the impressive Vanoise Express which will drop you off at Peisey and then descend by the road to Les Arcs to Bourg St Maurice.

At the start of the climb, on the route du Plan Bois, it is already quite steep. Nevertheless, it is a fairly steady climb, the percentage is actually constantly around 9-10-11 %. So you can reasonably get into a rhythm. In the beginning you ride in open parts with here and there some houses. This is a nice part, also in the descent. Higher up, you ride more in the forest. After 7 km the road gets worse. Instead of turning left to le Sauget I decided to continue to Plan Bois. A few times the road seems to become unpaved, but all the way to Plan Bois the road is paved, although at some points you have to ride around the holes and then you have to search for the last bit of asphalt. In the last few kilometres, the combination of bad road surface and percentages which sometimes go up to 14 % makes the climb quite tough. In Plan Bois, the tarmac ends and we reach the top. By then, you are at 1826 m altitude. There is not a very nice view, but there is a restaurant. For the adventurous, you can try the unpaved road further to drive, as far as I can see, this road even back to La Plagne end. You can make this climb even longer by starting from Aime and then it goes up already after the bridge over the Isere. Just after that you can turn left on the rue de la remise in the direction of Macot. So you already have 150 altimeters in 2.6 km before the climb.
